Job Overview: The FinOps Specialist position is a critical role within the Information Technology division of the EBRD, focusing on the design, implementation, and evolution of cost-optimisation practices across the Azure platform. This hands-on role is integral to cloud engineering and DevOps, where the specialist will collaborate with platform and product engineers to integrate FinOps tooling, automation, and governance into CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code. The specialist will be responsible for ensuring that the cloud estate delivers maximum value for every pound spent, through effective forecasting, anomaly detection, and architectural optimisation. The role requires a deep understanding of both financial and engineering disciplines, as the specialist will work to embed cost-awareness into the engineering culture of the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The FinOps Specialist will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: Owning Azure Cost Management and Billing for detailed spend analysis, optimisation, and reporting. Integrating FinOps tooling into Azure DevOps and GitHub pipelines, as well as Infrastructure as Code workflows using Bicep and Terraform. Automating resource tagging and cost allocation across various subscriptions, management groups, and landing zones. Delivering forecasting, budgeting, and anomaly detection capabilities using Azure Budgets, Cost Analysis, and Power BI. Driving rate optimisation strategies, including Azure Reservations, Savings Plans, and Spot Virtual Machines. Improving workload efficiency and architecture through the use of Azure Advisor and platform insights. Building dashboards and cost transparency reports using Power BI and Azure Monitor. Enabling and educating engineering squads on FinOps principles and cost-aware design. Supporting on-premises and private cloud cost management, including chargeback/showback models and capacity planning, as well as hybrid cost reporting and optimisation.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the FinOps Specialist position should possess proven experience in designing and implementing FinOps practices within Azure-centric platform engineering. Strong collaboration skills are essential, as the role requires working closely with engineers to embed FinOps into DevOps and CI/CD workflows. Hands-on experience with Azure Cost Management, Pricing Calculator, and various cost optimisation tools is necessary. Additionally, candidates should have experience working with Managed Service Providers and FinOps tooling vendors, along with a solid understanding of cloud engineering best practices. A data-driven mindset is crucial, enabling the specialist to turn cost data into actionable insights.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate for the FinOps Specialist role should hold a relevant degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Finance, or a related field.
