Job Overview:
The Risk and Compliance Coordinator plays a pivotal role in the Norwegian Refugee Council's efforts to manage risks and ensure compliance within its operations in Nigeria. This position is designed to provide technical leadership in areas such as risk identification, compliance monitoring, reporting, document management, and organizational learning. The Coordinator will work closely with the Risk and Compliance Manager, senior leadership, program teams, and support departments to embed risk-informed practices throughout the organization. The role is crucial in supporting the implementation of NRC standards, ensuring compliance with regulatory obligations, and contributing to proactive risk mitigation strategies. Additionally, the Coordinator will drive operational improvements by conducting spot checks, facilitating follow-ups on recommendations, and promoting robust documentation and archiving systems. This position also addresses critical issues related to data protection, anti-corruption, safeguarding, sanctions, and staff conduct, thereby contributing to a safe and compliant working environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Risk and Compliance Coordinator will assist the Risk and Compliance Manager in managing risks effectively within the Nigeria Country Office (CO). This includes promoting a risk management culture, ensuring compliance with high-risk areas, and addressing any issues related to data protection regulations and the Code of Conduct. The Coordinator will support the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director in identifying and assessing risks, conducting regular compliance checks, and reporting on compliance issues. They will hold and manage various compliance registers, advise in-country function leaders on compliance improvement measures, and ensure that standard operating procedures (SOPs) are aligned with policies and regulations. The Coordinator will also provide training and support to CO staff on risk management and compliance topics, contribute to the development of NRC's risk management framework, and facilitate follow-ups on recommendations from compliance checks. Specific responsibilities include conducting spot checks, supporting partnership assessments, and developing document management systems, among other tasks.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Risk and Compliance Coordinator position must possess a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Audit, Economics, Business, International Development, or a related field. A minimum of 3 years of experience in risk management, compliance, or auditing is required, or at least 4 years in cross-cutting humanitarian functions. Professional certifications such as Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), or Certified Risk Management Professional (CRMP) are advantageous. A strong understanding of international NGO compliance frameworks, knowledge of safeguarding, accountability, data protection, partnerships, and the Code of Conduct is essential. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively and provide solutions-oriented guidance.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's degree in relevant fields such as Finance, Accounting, Audit, Economics, Business, or International Development. This foundational education is critical for understanding the complexities of risk management and compliance within a humanitarian context.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in risk management, compliance, or auditing. Alternatively, candidates with 4 or more years of experience in cross-cutting humanitarian functions will also be considered. This experience should demonstrate a strong understanding of compliance frameworks and the ability to manage risks effectively in a complex operational environment.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization. Knowledge of Hausa is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate better communication with local stakeholders and communities.

Additional Notes:
This position is based in Abuja, Nigeria, with a contract duration of 12 months, which is renewable based on performance and organizational needs. The role is classified at NRC Grade 7, and the successful candidate will report to the Risk & Compliance Manager overseeing operations in Cameroon and Nigeria. The position may require travel of up to 40% across field offices, and it is open to Nigerian nationals only.
