Job Overview:
The Senior Field Security Assistant plays a crucial role in the Safety and Security Section of the UNSOS, located in Mogadishu. This position involves overseeing the security operations and ensuring the safety of UN personnel and assets in the region. The Senior Field Security Assistant is expected to maintain effective communication with security focal points across different agencies, analyze security-related information, and contribute to the development and implementation of security plans. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying potential security threats and providing guidance to staff and visitors on safety measures. The Senior Field Security Assistant will also be responsible for training staff on personal security awareness and ensuring that emergency protocols are in place and regularly practiced.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Field Security Assistant will have a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: supervising the security office's activities and budget preparation; supporting the Chief Security Officer in maintaining communication with security focal points; analyzing security information and providing input to the UN Security Management Team; developing security contingency plans and standard operating procedures; liaising with local authorities to assess security conditions; reviewing incident reports and ensuring timely responses; maintaining fire safety equipment and conducting drills; evaluating evacuation routes and resources; checking emergency communication systems; submitting reports to the Security Incident Reporting System; monitoring the security situation in coordination with host government authorities; establishing relationships with local security agencies; and sharing security updates and intelligence briefings.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Additionally, training in specialized security courses is desirable, along with a valid driver's license and a certificate of safe driving record. The position requires a strong understanding of security operations and protocols, particularly in a UN context. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and effective communication skills, as these competencies are essential for success in this role.

Educational Background:
A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory for this position. Candidates with additional qualifications, such as a first-level university degree, may have their minimum experience requirement reduced. Specialized training in security-related fields is highly desirable and can enhance a candidate's suitability for the role.

Experience:
A minimum of 10 years of experience in security operations is required, with a focus on national or UN security contexts. Candidates with a first-level university degree or higher may qualify with 8 years of relevant experience. Experience in coordinating with host governments and understanding diplomatic protocols, cultural sensitivities, and local governance structures is also desirable, as it contributes to the effectiveness of the Senior Field Security Assistant in their role.

Languages:
English and Somali are required for this position, as they are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
