Job Overview: The Data Engineer position at ESCWA is crucial for the development and operationalization of the Labour MarketInformation System (LMIS) in Qatar. This role involves designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines that are essential for integrating various data sources, including administrative records and survey data. The Data Engineer will work closely with Data Scientists and Full Stack Web Developers to ensure the availability of clean and reliable data for analysis and decision-making. The position requires a strong understanding of data architecture and the ability to automate data ingestion processes, implement data validation, and maintain comprehensive technical documentation. The Data Engineer will also be responsible for researching emerging technologies and trends in the field to enhance the data systems used by ESCWA.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Data Engineer will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including: designing, building, and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines; automating data ingestion from various sources such as databases, APIs, and streaming services; implementing data validation and quality checks to ensure data integrity; utilizing cloud platforms like Azure for data solutions; collaborating with Data Scientists and Full Stack Web Developers to provide reliable data; creating and maintaining technical documentation, user manuals, and training materials; providing ongoing support for deployed pipelines, including version control and data recovery processes; and researching and evaluating new technologies and tools to improve data systems.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of a high school diploma along with a certification or degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field. It is essential for all applicants to submit a copy of their educational qualifications, as incomplete applications will not be considered. Additionally, candidates should have at least 5 years of professional experience in relevant areas such as Python, SQL, cloud environments, container orchestration (Kubernetes), and DevOps automation. Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of Arabic should be at a confident level in at least two of the four areas.
