Job Overview:
The Water Technical Officer will play a crucial role in the implementation and management of IAEA extrabudgetary projects aimed at enhancing analytical capacity in Member States. The position requires a blend of technical expertise in water analysis, project management skills, and the ability to integrate scientific data into policy frameworks. The officer will work closely with Member States to provide guidance on laboratory construction, commissioning, and operational training. The role also involves collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure that water data is effectively utilized in governance and policy-making processes. This position is essential for advancing the IAEA's objectives in sustainable water resource management and ensuring that Member States can meet their water-related challenges effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Water Technical Officer will be responsible for planning, managing, and implementing extrabudgetary projects focused on laboratory development. Key responsibilities include providing technical guidance on analytical techniques for water analysis, writing progress reports, coordinating with the Department of Technical Cooperation, liaising with external counterparts, and organizing seminars and training courses. The officer will also contribute to reports and documents for senior management and governing bodies, ensuring that project objectives are met and that Member States receive the necessary support for their water resource management initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's Degree in Hydrochemistry, analytical chemistry, or geochemistry, with a PhD considered an asset. A minimum of five years of practical experience in applying analytical techniques for water analysis is required. Candidates should have substantial experience in implementing laboratory research projects, including proficiency testing and accreditation procedures. A broad understanding of natural resource management principles, particularly in water resource management, is essential. Strong technical knowledge of nuclear techniques in water resources management is also required, along with excellent analytical and communication skills.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master's or PhD) in Hydrochemistry, analytical chemistry, or geochemistry. The advanced degree is crucial for understanding the complexities of water analysis and the application of nuclear techniques in this field.

Experience:
The position requires at least five years of practical experience in the application of analytical techniques for water analysis. Candidates should have a proven track record in conceiving, formulating, and successfully implementing laboratory research projects. Experience in proficiency testing and accreditation procedures is also necessary, along with a strong technical background in nuclear techniques related to water resource management.

Languages:
Excellent oral and written command of English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $71,335, along with a variable post adjustment, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, and relocation expenses.
