Job Overview: The UN Volunteer position is part of the Egyptian Red Sea Initiative (ERSI), a flagship program implemented by UNDP in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment in Egypt and supported by the Global Fund for Coral Reefs. The primary goal of ERSI is to protect and enhance the ecological and economic value of the Red Sea's coral reef systems, which are vital for tourism, fisheries, and local livelihoods. The volunteer will provide essential support to the project team, particularly to the Senior Investment Consultant and the Senior Government Engagement Advisor. This role involves conducting structured research, drafting documentation, coordinating stakeholder engagement, and ensuring timely delivery of outputs. The volunteer will play a crucial role in consolidating technical inputs and proposals to inform decision-making regarding the Egyptian Fund for Coral Reefs (EFCR), a blended-finance conservation fund aimed at securing long-term financing for coral reef conservation efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The UN Volunteer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: 1) Conducting targeted desk research to support the advisors' workstreams, preparing concise research briefs, annotated bibliographies, and maintaining a structured repository of reference materials. 2) Drafting and consolidating working drafts of key documents, editing and formatting deliverables for clarity and completeness, and preparing meeting packs as needed. 3) Supporting the planning and coordination of stakeholder engagements, documenting outcomes through meeting minutes, and maintaining stakeholder trackers. 4) Preparing weekly highlights and monthly progress memos, compiling reporting inputs, and ensuring timely circulation of drafts for review and final approvals. The volunteer will ensure a coherent process and strong documentation trail throughout these activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into concise briefs. Excellent writing and editing skills are essential, along with proficiency in document formatting and quality control. The ability to manage stakeholder engagement processes effectively and maintain organized documentation is crucial. The volunteer should demonstrate adaptability, creativity, and professionalism in their work, as well as the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as environmental science, public policy, international relations, or a related discipline is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in areas related to sustainable development, conservation, or finance may be advantageous.
Experience: Candidates should have prior experience in research, documentation, or project support, preferably in the context of international development or environmental conservation. Familiarity with stakeholder engagement processes and experience working in a multicultural environment will be beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the volunteer's effectiveness in the role.
Additional Notes: The position is based in Cairo, Egypt, with potential travel to Red Sea governorates and other locations as required. The role is a full-time volunteer position, and the UN Specialist Volunteer will receive a monthly living allowance, entry and exit lump-sum payments, medical and life insurance coverage, and access to training resources.
