Job Overview: The Regional Case Lead will play a crucial role in enhancing connections with governments in support of the Methane Alert and Response System (MARS) and the Methane Science Studies. This position is vital for the effective management of the notification process of Component 2 and the coordination of Component 3 alongside partner organizations. The Regional Case Lead will be responsible for developing and maintaining comprehensive contact lists of stakeholders within their region, which will include representatives from relevant government bodies, national oil companies, and other pertinent groups. The role requires collaboration with partners to notify these stakeholders when emissions events are detected, ensuring that feedback is collected and communicated back to the IMEO team. The position demands a deep understanding of methane-specific topics and regional engagement, as the case expert will also support other regional priorities, particularly those related to the Methane Science Studies. This includes working closely with the science team to engage governments for approvals and necessary permits for scientific studies, as well as supporting capacity-building efforts in the region. The Regional Case Lead will be instrumental in driving the mission of IMEO forward by leveraging their expertise and fostering collaboration among various stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Regional Case Lead include:
Developing and maintaining contact lists for countries within the region, ensuring representation from relevant government bodies, national oil companies, and other necessary groups.
Notifying these groups of detected emissions events and providing follow-up to ensure appropriate actions are taken.
Coordinating technical support from IMEO partners to address emissions events as needed.
Collecting and synthesizing feedback from stakeholders regarding emissions events, the notification process, and mitigation efforts.
Collaborating with the science team to identify regions and countries suitable for scientific measurement studies.
Engaging stakeholders to present opportunities for collaboration with IMEO on science studies.
Supporting the collection of location data, acquisition of flight permits, and other logistical requirements for successful scientific studies.
Supporting the deployment of IMEO's methane mitigation training series in the region.
Collaborating with the implementation team on follow-up actions with governments. 1
Engaging relevant government and NOC contacts to encourage membership in the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership
The consultant will work closely with national authorities, regional organizations, civil society, and experts, reporting to the IMEO MARS Programme Manager/Government Engagement Lead.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Regional Case Lead position include:
A Master's degree or equivalent in environmental affairs, public policy, or a related field.
A minimum of 5 years of experience working in government, industry, or related fields in at least one country within the region.
Knowledge of the energy sector and methane emissions is highly desirable.
Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master's degree or an equivalent qualification in environmental affairs, public policy, or a related field. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively engage with stakeholders and contribute to the objectives of the IMEO.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in government, industry, or related fields. This experience should ideally be within the context of the region where the candidate will be working, providing them with a deep understanding of the local dynamics and challenges related to methane emissions and environmental policy.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written Spanish is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for effective communication with stakeholders in the region.
