Job Overview: The Training and Outreach Specialist plays a crucial role in the IRC's Anti-Trafficking Program, which aims to support survivors of human trafficking through community education and outreach. This position is responsible for delivering engaging, trauma-informed presentations that educate various stakeholders about human trafficking prevention, identification, and response. The specialist will work closely with community partners, service providers, and other stakeholders to enhance the community's capacity to respond to trafficking situations. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and the ability to engage diverse audiences, including youth, parents, law enforcement, healthcare providers, and community organizations. This role is essential in raising awareness and promoting survivor-centered approaches across multiple sectors, ultimately contributing to the development of a robust anti-trafficking program in the Sacramento area.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Training and Outreach Specialist will be responsible for designing, facilitating, and delivering public presentations, workshops, and trainings on human trafficking, exploitation dynamics, trauma responses, and prevention strategies. The trainings will be tailored to various audiences, including educators, medical providers, law enforcement, and community organizations. The specialist will present complex and sensitive content in a trauma-informed, culturally responsive manner, ensuring that stakeholders are educated on available services and best practices for supporting survivors. Additionally, the specialist will develop and implement a region-wide outreach plan to increase awareness regarding the needs of trafficking survivors, coordinate outreach efforts, and host community meetings and discussions. Building and expanding partnerships with coalition members and providers is also a key responsibility, as well as contributing to resource and curriculum development, maintaining training materials, and supporting reporting requirements for grants or program evaluation.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess an undergraduate degree in Communication Studies, Education, Psychology/Counseling, Sociology, Public Health, Criminal Justice/Law, or a related field. Significant relevant work experience may substitute for educational requirements. A minimum of two years of experience in community education, anti-trafficking work, victim services, social work, or youth programs is required. The ideal candidate should have experience developing training curricula and professional development modules, exceptional public speaking abilities, and the capacity to present complex information clearly and compassionately. Strong writing, research, and graphic design presentation skills are essential, along with high emotional intelligence and sensitivity when addressing trauma-related topics.
Educational Background: An undergraduate degree in a relevant field such as Communication Studies, Education, Psychology/Counseling, Sociology, Public Health, Criminal Justice/Law, or an equivalent field of study is preferred. However, significant relevant work experience can replace educational requirements, particularly if the experience includes community education, anti-trafficking work, or victim services.

Candidates should have experience in developing training curricula and professional development modules, as well as a proven ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations and age groups. Experience in public speaking and presenting complex information with clarity and compassion is essential.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is required for this position. Fluency in written and spoken Spanish is strongly preferred, as it will enhance communication with diverse community members and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The position is based in Sacramento, California, and may require travel locally for speaking engagements and the transport of materials and supplies. The working environment includes standard office settings, schools, shelters, colleges, youth centers, medical facilities, law enforcement, and various community locations. Some evening and weekend availability may be required based on community needs. The compensation for this role ranges from $26.00 to $27.00 per hour, with the exact offer depending on factors such as work location, individual candidate experience, and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
