UNDP's initiatives include the Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN), which aims to enhance biodiversity finance solutions across multiple countries.
Job Overview: The intern will work under the guidance of the National Coordinator of BIOFIN China and the Project Manager of the Shandong team. The primary role involves providing daily support for the implementation of various biodiversity finance initiatives, including the Biodiversity Finance Policy and Institutional Review (PIR), Biodiversity Expenditure Review (BER), Financial Needs Assessment (FNA), and the Biodiversity Finance Plan (BFP). The intern will engage in scoping research on current biodiversity issues and assist in the development of reports and publications to enhance UNDP BIOFIN's advocacy and visibility. Additionally, the intern will help with logistical arrangements for meetings, take meeting minutes, and learn about UNDP's role in supporting partners in China. This position offers exposure to key cooperation programs and the opportunity to contribute to the formulation and implementation of projects and programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Management Support: Provide assistance with financial and administrative requirements of the project, ensuring timely execution. Facilitate and monitor the work of the national BIOFIN team and GBF project, manage payment schedules, and assist in project-related activities such as planning meetings and consultations. Ensure smooth organization of national and international travel, assist in organizing PSC meetings, and document meeting notes and decisions. Support Monitoring and Evaluation of projects, draft progress reports, and assist in scoping research for reports and publications.
Financial Oversight: Manage the project budget, oversee procurement and accounting in collaboration with UNDP China and the global BIOFIN Team. Ensure timely disbursement of financial resources to implementing partners and maintain records of expenditures for financial reporting.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess skills for solution-oriented engagement with diverse stakeholders, demonstrate teamwork abilities, and manage timely and effective delivery of tasks. Proficiency in computer software, particularly Microsoft Office, is essential. Strong communication skills in both Chinese and English, along with excellent partnership-building skills, are required. Candidates should also have conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
Educational Background: A major in English, environmental science, or related fields is preferred. Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program, be in the final year of a first university degree program, have recently graduated with a university degree, or be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program that includes the internship as part of the program.
Experience: The position is suitable for candidates who are either currently enrolled in a relevant academic program or have recently graduated. Experience in project management, financial oversight, or environmental science is advantageous but not mandatory.
Languages: Proficiency in both Chinese and English is required, with strong communication skills in both oral and written forms. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not mandatory.
Additional Notes: Interns may receive a stipend according to UNDP Internship Policies if not financially supported by any institution. They are responsible for securing adequate medical insurance for the duration of the internship and must provide self-certification of good health. Interns must also obtain necessary visas and arrange travel to the duty station. Costs related to travel, visas, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring institution. Interns are not considered staff members and cannot represent UNDP officially.
