Job Overview:
The Driver position is crucial for the effective functioning of the ASYCUDA Programme in Afghanistan. The incumbent will be responsible for safely transporting authorized personnel and, in specific cases, general cargo or specialized hazardous goods. The Driver will also be tasked with collecting and delivering mail, documents, and other items, ensuring that all transportation needs are met efficiently. Additionally, the Driver will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, which includes checking essential vehicle components and performing minor repairs. The position demands a proactive approach to vehicle upkeep and a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe driving environment. The Driver will log official trips, monitor vehicle usage, and ensure compliance with regulations in the event of an accident. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver will undertake the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Safely drive vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and cargo, including hazardous goods when necessary.
  • Collect and deliver mail, documents, and other items as required.
  • Meet official personnel at the airport and assist with immigration and customs formalities.
  • Conduct daily maintenance checks on assigned vehicles, including oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires, and perform minor repairs as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the vehicle at all times.
  • Log official trips, including daily mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities.
  • Follow established procedures in the event of an accident, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the ASYCUDA Regional Coordinator.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and demonstrate the ability to drive manual transmission vehicles. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with driver training. The position requires a minimum of one year of experience as a driver with a proven safe driving record. Experience working with international organizations, particularly the United Nations, is highly desirable. Candidates should also have experience driving various types of vehicles, including vans and other motorized vehicles, to ensure versatility in transportation duties.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is a high school diploma or equivalent. Additionally, candidates must have completed driver training and hold a valid driver's license. It is essential for applicants to attach a copy of their valid driver's license in the application process to verify their qualifications.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of one year of driving experience, with a focus on maintaining a safe driving record. Additional Notes:
This position is temporarily available for three months. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment. The temporary nature of this position means it does not guarantee future employment or affect the incumbency of the post.
