Job Overview:
The Analyst position is integral to the Energy team within the Evaluation Sustainability Department (ESD) at the EBRD, based in Warsaw, Poland. The primary purpose of this role is to support the team in fulfilling the Bank's commitments under its Environmental and Social Policy. This includes conducting environmental and social appraisals, monitoring the Bank's portfolio of projects, and ensuring compliance with relevant environmental and social standards. The Analyst will engage in various renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, hydro, and nuclear power generation, contributing to the Bank's mission of promoting sustainable development. The role requires collaboration with multiple stakeholders, including banking teams and external partners, to drive the agenda of sound environmental practices and sustainable development. The Analyst will also be involved in data management, reporting, and verification processes, ensuring that the Bank's environmental and social commitments are met effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Analyst will be responsible for a range of tasks under the general direction of the Head of Sector/Policy/Monitoring/Assurance. Key responsibilities include:
  • Supporting the assessment of Environmental and Social Policy (ESP) compliance, identifying risks and opportunities related to environmental and social impacts, climate change, and green finance.
  • Conducting research and analytical reviews of documents and strategies, developing methodologies, and monitoring project outputs and outcomes.
  • Engaging with various stakeholders, both internal and external, to facilitate communication and collaboration on projects.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of internal processes, including data collection and management.
  • Assisting in the coordination of meetings and events as required.
  • Working collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams to deliver on assigned projects and initiatives, ensuring attention to detail and adherence to deadlines.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a degree in environmental and/or social sciences, economics, engineering, or a related field, or have comparable professional experience. A strong understanding of environmental and social risks, as well as familiarity with international standards and guidelines, is essential. Knowledge of financing instruments and approaches is advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate effective time management, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders are also required. Proven analytical and quantitative skills are necessary for success in this role.

Educational Background:
A degree in environmental and/or social sciences, economics, engineering, or a related field is required. Candidates with comparable professional experience in relevant areas may also be considered. Familiarity with international environmental and social standards, as well as knowledge of the EBRD's operational countries, is beneficial.

Experience:
Candidates should have relevant experience in environmental and social assessment, project management, or related fields. Experience working in a multicultural environment and building effective working relationships with clients and colleagues is highly valued. The role may require prior experience in conducting research and analysis related to environmental and social issues, as well as familiarity with the Bank's operational sectors.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory. Familiarity with a language of the EBRD's countries of operations is advantageous. For positions based in resident offices, fluency in the local language is required to facilitate communication with local stakeholders.

This position is a regular contract with a contract length that is not specified. The EBRD promotes a flexible working environment, expecting employees to attend the office 50% of their working time.
