Job Overview: The NOC Advocacy and Communication Specialist is responsible for coordinating, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating advocacy and communication strategies aimed at achieving positive outcomes for children and young people. This role involves developing and implementing communication and advocacy strategies, managing digital communications, engaging with media, and building capacity in communication and advocacy. The specialist will work closely with stakeholders to ensure effective communication and advocacy efforts that align with UNICEF's mission to promote children's rights and equity.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement communication strategies that effectively convey UNICEF's mission and objectives.
Create and execute advocacy strategies to influence policy and decision-making for children's rights.
Manage digital communication platforms and ensure content is relevant and engaging.
Build and maintain relationships with media representatives to enhance UNICEF's visibility and impact.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communication and advocacy initiatives.
Provide training and capacity building for staff and partners in communication and advocacy.
Engage with stakeholders to foster collaboration and support for UNICEF's goals.
Produce high-quality communication materials, including press releases, feature stories, and social media content.
Stay informed about trends in digital and social media to enhance communication strategies. 1
Ensure that all communication efforts align with UNICEF's values and commitment to equity.
A first-level university degree with an additional two years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
At least five years of progressively responsible professional work experience in communications is required.
Proven experience in developing and implementing communication strategies and advocacy initiatives.
Strong understanding of children's rights, public policy, and international development issues.
Experience in media relations and managing online platforms.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an Advanced University degree in relevant fields such as Public Policy, Political Science, International Relations, International Development, Public Administration, Economics, Communication, or Journalism. Alternatively, a first-level university degree with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted.
Experience: A minimum of five years of progressively responsible and relevant professional work experience in communications is required. Candidates should have experience in developing and implementing communication strategies, advocacy work, and managing digital and social media content. Experience in media relations and communications in developing or emergency environments is also essential.
Languages: Fluency in English and Burmese is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is considered an asset. Experience in advocacy at the international level and training or facilitation experience is also desirable.
