Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer position is part of UNICEF Lebanon’s Education Access programme, which is dedicated to ensuring equitable access to safe, inclusive, and continuous learning opportunities for all children, especially the most vulnerable Lebanese and non-Lebanese children. The role involves supporting field-level monitoring, data gathering and analysis, partner coordination, and reporting related to Formal Education access interventions. The UN Volunteer will work closely with the Education Specialist (Access) to implement and monitor the education access portfolio, contributing to evidence-based planning and enhancing equitable access to quality learning opportunities for all children. The position requires regular field visits to public schools, data collection and analysis, and preparation of monitoring reports and updates.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UN Volunteer will have a variety of responsibilities, including:
  • Supporting the monitoring of Formal Education Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent application across implementing partners and schools.
  • Conducting regular field visits to public schools to monitor programme implementation, identify bottlenecks, and document good practices and challenges.
  • Supporting data collection, cleaning, and analysis related to school enrolment, attendance, retention, and transition of children within Formal Education programmes.
  • Assisting in maintaining and updating education access databases and dashboards to support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Contributing to the preparation of monitoring reports, visit summaries, and partner feedback notes, highlighting key findings and recommendations.
  • Assisting in tracking progress against programme targets and indicators within the Formal Education portfolio.
  • Supporting the organization of coordination meetings, workshops, and training sessions related to Formal Education access.
  • Assisting in drafting inputs for situation reports and internal programme updates.
  • Assisting in organizing donor visits and preparing required briefing notes for Formal Education. 1
  • Performing any other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor in support of UNICEF’s Education Access programme.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong analytical and organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. They should have a good understanding of education systems and policies, particularly in the context of Lebanon. Familiarity with data collection and analysis methods is essential, along with proficiency in using databases and reporting tools. The ideal candidate should also have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and be able to engage effectively with various stakeholders, including government officials, partners, and community members.

Educational Background:
A degree in education, social sciences, or a related field is required for this position. Candidates with advanced degrees or specialized training in education or child development will be given preference. Knowledge of the Lebanese education system and experience working in educational settings will be advantageous.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have at least 1-2 years of relevant experience in education, monitoring and evaluation, or a related field. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs, particularly in the context of education access and equity, is highly desirable. Familiarity with UNICEF’s mission and values will also be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in Arabic and English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of French or other languages spoken in Lebanon would be considered an asset, as it would enhance communication with diverse communities and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This is a national UN Volunteer assignment based in Beirut, Lebanon. The UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The position offers a monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of USD 1,606.56, along with annual and learning leaves, medical and life insurance, and free access to various learning platforms. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adapt to the prevailing culture and traditions in Lebanon. Additionally, appointments are subject to confirmation of fully vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a WHO-endorsed vaccine, although this requirement does not apply to those working remotely.
