Job Overview: The position of Spécialiste Programme, Economiste Féministe involves leading ONU Femmes' national program on gender and economy. The incumbent will work closely with the Country Representative and the regional feminist economist, collaborating with program and operations teams within the country office, as well as with implementation partners and feminist economists in other national offices. The role requires overseeing the development of gender-sensitive programs, providing intellectual leadership, conducting research to promote gender-responsive economic reforms, and formulating strategies to enhance women's participation in the green economy and entrepreneurship. The specialist will also manage the implementation of the gender and economy program, ensuring alignment with broader organizational goals and effective collaboration with other teams.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Spécialiste Programme, Economiste Féministe include:
Supervising the development of gender-sensitive programs in the country office.
Providing intellectual leadership and conducting research on new areas to promote gender-sensitive economic reforms.
Formulating strategies to extend reforms related to unpaid care work, women's participation in the green economy, and women's entrepreneurship.
Coordinating the development and implementation of flagship policy initiatives in gender and women's economic empowerment.
Managing the implementation and oversight of the gender and economy program, including annual work plans and budgets.
Providing technical assistance to partners, including governments and civil society, to formulate and implement gender-sensitive economic reforms.
Supporting capacity-building initiatives for national stakeholders and developing training modules and tools.
Establishing and strengthening strategic partnerships with stakeholders to promote gender-sensitive economic policies.
Participating in the Women’s Economic Empowerment community of practice to disseminate lessons learned and best practices. 1
Executing other tasks as needed to ensure the effective functioning of the office and organization.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for this position include a strong understanding of gender and economic policies, particularly those related to women's economic empowerment. The candidate should possess excellent training and capacity-building skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences. Strong writing skills are essential for producing various knowledge products tailored to different audiences and objectives. The candidate should have experience in applying macroeconomic tools and producing impactful communication materials. A solid understanding of the region and excellent networking skills are also required, along with the ability to interact with donors and analyze trends in fundraising. The candidate should be capable of conducting qualitative and quantitative research on policies and providing policy advice.
Educational Background: A Master's degree or equivalent in economics, development economics, feminist economics, or a related field in economics or public policy is required for this position. This educational background is essential to understand the complexities of gender and economic issues and to effectively contribute to the organization's mission.
Experience: Candidates should have at least seven years of experience and achievements in development, particularly in promoting policy reforms related to gender and economy. This includes experience with macroeconomic policies and women's economic empowerment. Proven experience in gender analysis, both quantitative and qualitative, is necessary. The candidate should also have experience in program management, policy analysis, and strategic planning, preferably within developing and emerging economies. Previous work experience within the United Nations system is considered an asset.
Languages: Fluency in French and English is required for this position. Knowledge of another UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) is desirable, which would enhance the candidate's ability to engage with a broader range of stakeholders and resources.
