Job Overview:
The National Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the International Consultant in the process of building peace in South Sudan. This position involves promoting inclusive and participatory transitional justice processes and mechanisms, which are essential for fostering reconciliation and stability in the region. The consultant will be expected to engage with various stakeholders, including government entities, civil society organizations, and local communities, to ensure that the transitional justice processes are inclusive and reflect the needs and aspirations of the affected populations. The assignment is expected to last for 50 working days, during which the consultant will contribute to the development and implementation of strategies aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of transitional justice initiatives in South Sudan.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The National Consultant will be responsible for a range of duties including:
  • Collaborating with the International Consultant to design and implement strategies for promoting inclusive transitional justice processes.
  • Engaging with local communities and stakeholders to gather insights and feedback on transitional justice mechanisms.
  • Conducting research and analysis on best practices in transitional justice and adapting them to the South Sudan context.
  • Facilitating workshops and discussions to raise awareness about transitional justice among various stakeholders.
  • Providing recommendations for policy and programmatic interventions to enhance the effectiveness of transitional justice initiatives.
  • Preparing reports and documentation on the progress and outcomes of the transitional justice processes.
  • Ensuring that the principles of inclusivity and participation are upheld throughout the assignment.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in peacebuilding, transitional justice, or related fields. They should have demonstrated experience in working with diverse stakeholders, including government, civil society, and community organizations. Strong analytical and communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a challenging environment. Familiarity with the South Sudan context and previous experience in similar roles will be considered an asset.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in social sciences, law, international relations, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in peacebuilding, conflict resolution, or transitional justice will be advantageous.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in peacebuilding, transitional justice, or related areas. Experience working in conflict-affected settings, particularly in South Sudan or similar contexts, is highly desirable. Proven track record of engaging with diverse stakeholders and facilitating participatory processes is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages spoken in South Sudan will be considered an asset, as it will enhance communication and engagement with local communities.
