Job Overview:
This position involves consulting on the strengthening of climate action protocols at the national level in Equatorial Guinea. The consultant will be expected to provide expert advice and support in the development and implementation of climate action strategies that align with international standards and best practices. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of climate change issues, national policies, and the ability to engage with various stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society, and the private sector. The consultant will work closely with UNDP and other partners to ensure that the climate action protocols are effective, inclusive, and sustainable. The assignment is expected to last for 45 days, during which the consultant will conduct assessments, facilitate workshops, and provide recommendations for enhancing the national climate action framework.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Conduct a thorough assessment of the current climate action protocols in Equatorial Guinea, identifying gaps and areas for improvement.
  • Engage with key stakeholders, including government officials, NGOs, and community representatives, to gather input and foster collaboration.
  • Develop a comprehensive report outlining recommendations for strengthening the national climate action protocols.
  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions to build capacity among stakeholders on climate action strategies.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to UNDP and the government throughout the implementation of the recommendations.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of the climate action initiatives, providing feedback and adjustments as necessary.
  • Ensure that all activities are aligned with UNDP's mission and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:
  • A strong background in environmental science, climate change, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing climate action strategies at the national or regional level.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable recommendations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with international climate agreements and frameworks, such as the Paris Agreement.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree or higher in environmental science, climate change, public policy, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in climate action, sustainable development, or project management will be considered an asset.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in climate change consulting, policy development, or project management. Experience working with international organizations, particularly UN agencies, is highly desirable. Proven track record of successful project implementation and stakeholder engagement is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as it is the official language of Equatorial Guinea. Proficiency in English is also highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with international stakeholders and partners. Knowledge of other local languages may be an advantage.

Additional Notes:
This position is for an individual contractor and is expected to be a short-term assignment lasting 45 days. The consultant will be required to submit their proposals through the UNDP supplier portal before the deadline. The role is open to both national and international candidates, and compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The consultant will be expected to work remotely and may need to travel within Equatorial Guinea as required.
