Job Overview:
The Humanitarian Access & Safety Technical Assistant position is crucial for ensuring the safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security of NRC staff and operations in Abuja, Nigeria. The role involves supporting the day-to-day security operations at the Country Office, which includes enforcing access control procedures, conducting safety assessments, and ensuring that communication equipment is functional. The assistant will work closely with the HAS Manager and other stakeholders to facilitate training and meetings related to humanitarian access and safety. This position requires a proactive approach to security management, with a focus on maintaining a safe environment for all NRC personnel and visitors. The assistant will also be responsible for conducting regular checks on safety equipment and ensuring compliance with travel authorization protocols.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide daily context updates to the HAS Manager before field travels commence.
  • Enforce access control procedures at the Abuja Country Office and Guest House through security personnel.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to support the organization of HEIST trainings and meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Logistics Team to conduct safety assessments of vehicles rented for NRC use.
  • Ensure all communication equipment, including satellite phones and GPS trackers, is operational and available for staff use.
  • Conduct daily headcounts of staff and report findings to the HAS Manager.
  • Regularly check the functionality of safety installations such as fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and CCTVs, reporting any issues immediately.
  • Ensure all staff traveling to program sites have completed Travel Authorization Requests (TAR).
  • Support the management and coordination of CCTV and staff field travel management in Abuja. 1
  • Maintain strong interpersonal relationships with various stakeholders and contribute to security incident analysis and reporting.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate effectively with various stakeholders. They should have report-writing capabilities and be able to analyze security incidents, including conducting conflict analysis and research. A university degree or HND in relevant fields such as Social Sciences, Security Management, Conflict Resolution, Humanitarian Affairs, or Disaster Risk Management is required. An HND in a relevant field will also be considered acceptable.

Educational Background:
A university degree or HND in Social Sciences or related fields is required for this position. Relevant courses may include Administration, Security Management, Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding, Humanitarian/Refugee Affairs, and Disaster Risk Management. Candidates with an HND in a relevant field will also be considered for the role.

Experience:
The position requires 0 to 3 years of working experience in a similar role related to Humanitarian Access, safety, and security management. Experience with international NGOs, the UN, or government/private sectors is preferred. Previous experience in complex emergency and development contexts, particularly in Northern Nigeria, is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an advantage, although specific additional languages are not mentioned in the job description.

The position is based in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria, with a contract duration of 12 months, which is renewable based on performance and organizational needs.
