Job Overview:
The Programme Analyst position at UNFPA is designed to support the Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO) in enhancing climate resilience and innovation across its country offices. The role involves collaborating closely with these offices to implement agreed actions that strengthen climate resilience and promote innovative solutions in response to climate change. The Programme Analyst will engage in various tasks, including mobilizing climate finance, conducting research, and developing strategies related to youth, peace, and climate security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security. This position is critical in ensuring that UNFPA's initiatives align with the broader goals of climate adaptation and innovation, particularly in the context of health interventions. The Programme Analyst will also contribute to ongoing regional projects and support the coordination of innovation efforts within the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Programme Analyst will undertake a range of responsibilities, including:
  • Supporting ESARO country offices in developing proposals to mobilize climate finance, particularly for climate and health interventions.
  • Assisting in research, advocacy, and evidence-building efforts related to climate change and the environment, including updating relevant country profiles.
  • Contributing to the development of a strategy focused on youth, peace, and climate security.
  • Supporting the delivery of two ongoing regional climate change and innovation projects across 10 countries.
  • Performing additional tasks as assigned by the Programme Specialists.
  • Coordinating the region's innovation focal point programme.
  • Providing technical assistance to country offices on innovation mainstreaming and climate-conscious programming.
  • Developing at least three funding proposals for innovation programmes.
  • Identifying at least one innovation project for scalable support.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Programme Analyst position should possess a strong understanding of climate change issues, particularly as they relate to sexual and reproductive health. They should demonstrate skills in research, advocacy, and proposal development. The ideal candidate will have a background in public health, environmental science, or a related field, with a focus on climate resilience and innovation. Additional Notes:
The Programme Analyst position is based in Johannesburg, South Africa, and is a 6-month assignment under the direct supervision of the Programme Specialists in Climate Adaptation and Innovation. The role offers a Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of $1987.75, a one-time entry lump sum of $4000 at the start of the assignment, family allowance, medical insurance, life cover, and annual leave. Additionally, volunteers will receive a one-time exit lump sum of $225 for each month served at the end of the assignment. The position is full-time and requires a commitment to UNFPA's mission and values.
