Job Overview: The Regional security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Officer position at the IMF is a critical role that involves overseeing field security operations within a designated region. This position requires a proactive approach to monitoring and analyzing global security threats to ensure the safety of Fund personnel and assets. The officer will be responsible for providing timely assessments and recommendations during security incidents, conducting risk assessments, and preparing security reports that analyze significant incidents affecting the IMF. The role also includes acting as a liaison with various stakeholders, including UN security departments and diplomatic missions, to ensure effective communication and collaboration on security matters. The Regional Security Officer will also be involved in developing and conducting security training for Fund personnel, ensuring that all staff are well-prepared to handle security challenges in high-risk environments.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Regional Security Officer include:
Collecting, collating, and analyzing security threat information to provide timely situation assessments and recommendations during security incidents.
Conducting country security risk assessments to determine risk levels for IMF personnel and operations.
Preparing security reports that cover significant incidents and analyze their impact on the safety of IMF personnel.
Acting as a focal point for Heads of Offices and field personnel regarding security-related issues.
Preparing and implementing security planning and risk management documents.
Delivering security briefings for IMF missions traveling to high-risk locations.
Establishing productive relationships with security departments at the UN, World Bank, and other relevant organizations.
Assisting in the development of Emergency Action Plans and conducting security training for Fund personnel.
Conducting physical security assessments of offices and residences overseas. 1
Monitoring the security situation in the assigned region and supporting the Fund’s response to security incidents and emergencies. 1
Mentoring and managing relationships with junior team members and leading assigned projects.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in international relations, political science, security risk management, or a related field. Alternatively, a university degree supplemented by a minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible work experience in security is acceptable. Preference will be given to candidates with at least 12 years of professional security experience. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong analytical skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities in English, and a customer service focus. Familiarity with the UN Security Management system or experience with international organizations is preferred.
Educational Background: The educational background required for the Regional Security Officer position typically includes an advanced university degree in fields such as international relations, political science, security risk management, or a closely related discipline. A university degree, or equivalent, combined with substantial relevant work experience may also be considered acceptable. Candidates with extensive professional security experience will be prioritized.
Experience: The position requires a significant level of experience in security operations, with a minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible work experience in the field of security. Candidates with 12 years of professional security experience will be preferred. Experience in delivering security training courses and operational planning is essential, along with a proven track record of managing security-related projects and initiatives.
Languages: Proficiency in written and verbal communication in English is mandatory. Candidates with proficiency in another language are preferred, as this can enhance communication and collaboration in a multicultural environment.
