Job Overview:
The One coordinator" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Health Coordinator will play a critical role in supporting the development, implementation, and evaluation of the One Health national strategy and action plans in Libya. This position requires collaboration with various ministries and partners to ensure effective communication and coordination in implementing the One Health approach. The coordinator will also be responsible for establishing surveillance and information-sharing systems, integrating the One Health approach into emergency preparedness and response, and providing technical advice for activities at the human-animal-environment interface. The role involves organizing workshops, training programs, and assessments to enhance the country's capacity to manage zoonotic diseases and health emergencies. The coordinator will also contribute to resource mobilization efforts and support workforce development to strengthen human resources for One Health-related tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide substantive support for the development and implementation of the One Health national strategy and action plans.
  • Coordinate collaboration and communication mechanisms with relevant ministries and partners to implement the One Health strategy.
  • Establish and strengthen inter-linked surveillance and information-sharing systems promoting the One Health approach.
  • Integrate the One Health approach into emergency preparedness and response activities at national and subnational levels.
  • Provide technical advice for prevention, preparedness, and response activities at the human-animal-environment interface.
  • Organize One Health events such as workshops, webinars, and training programs.
  • Develop and manage technical programs related to zoonotic diseases, environmental health, and food safety.
  • Coordinate resource mobilization efforts, including proposal preparation and reporting to donors.
  • Support capacity building and workforce development for One Health-related tasks. 1
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, including backstopping and replacing colleagues as necessary.

Required Qualifications:
Essential qualifications include a first university degree in medicine, veterinary medicine, or health-related fields. Desirable qualifications include post-graduate training in epidemiology of tropical and/or zoonotic diseases and an additional degree in public health. Candidates should have a strong understanding of WHO and UN systems related to disease detection and response, excellent organizational and analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Strong presentation and interpersonal skills are also essential, along with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a first university degree in medicine, veterinary medicine, or a health-related field. Additional qualifications such as post-graduate training in epidemiology or public health are desirable and will enhance a candidate's profile.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least five years of experience with international exposure in the prevention, surveillance, detection, and response to infectious zoonotic diseases. This includes a minimum of two years of field experience managing outbreaks of zoonotic diseases. Experience in developing frameworks and guidance for One Health, as well as conducting training workshops at national or international levels, is essential. Desirable experience includes work in pandemic preparedness and health emergencies, preferably at the international level, and previous collaboration with UN agencies or relevant international organizations.

Languages:
Expert knowledge of English and Arabic is essential for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory.

Additional Notes:
The position is a full-time role with a competitive salary starting at USD 70,212 annually, plus a variable post adjustment reflecting the cost of living in Libya. Benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
