Job Overview:
The IC - Gender and Equity Specialist position is designed to provide expert guidance and support in the areas of gender equality and equity within the framework of UNDP's initiatives in Belize. The specialist will be responsible for assessing gender-related issues, developing strategies to promote gender equity, and ensuring that gender considerations are integrated into all aspects of UNDP's work. This role requires a deep understanding of gender dynamics and the ability to engage with various stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and community groups. The specialist will also be expected to contribute to capacity-building efforts, facilitate workshops, and provide technical assistance to ensure that gender equity is prioritized in policy-making and program implementation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Gender and Equity Specialist include but are not limited to: conducting gender assessments and analyses to identify gaps and opportunities for promoting gender equity; developing and implementing gender-sensitive policies and programs; providing technical support to UNDP projects to ensure gender considerations are integrated; facilitating training and workshops for staff and partners on gender issues; collaborating with local and international stakeholders to promote gender equality initiatives; monitoring and evaluating the impact of gender-related programs; preparing reports and documentation on gender equity efforts; and advising senior management on best practices and strategies for enhancing gender equity within the organization.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in gender studies, social sciences, or a related field. They should have proven experience in gender analysis, policy development, and program implementation. Familiarity with international gender frameworks and conventions is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment. Proficiency in project management and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines are also required.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field is required for this position. A PhD in a relevant discipline would be an advantage. Candidates should have a solid understanding of gender issues and their implications for development, as well as experience in research and analysis related to gender equity.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of professional experience in gender equality and women's empowerment, with a focus on policy development and program implementation. Experience working with UN agencies or international organizations is highly desirable. Candidates should also have a track record of successfully managing projects and engaging with diverse stakeholders, including government, civil society, and the private sector.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of UNDP in Belize. Knowledge of Spanish or other local languages would be considered an asset, as it would facilitate communication with local communities and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is offered as a six-month contract, with the possibility of renewal based on performance evaluation. The role is classified as an individual contractor position, which means that the selected candidate will not be a UNDP staff member but will work on a contractual basis. The expected workload is approximately 21.5 days per month, and the position is expected to be full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and additional benefits may be provided as per UNDP policies.
