Job Overview:
The UNICEF internship-programme" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Internship Programme provides qualified and eligible students with the opportunity to gain practical experience in UNICEF's operations and the United Nations system. The intern will work under the supervision of the Public Partnership Manager in the Public Partnerships Division (PPD) at the Asia-Pacific Pilla Office in Tokyo. The role involves supporting various tasks related to resource mobilization with the Government of Japan, including quality assurance, analysis, research, communication, and administrative duties. The intern will engage in activities that enhance UNICEF's visibility and advocacy efforts, contributing to the organization's mission of promoting children's rights and welfare.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Reviewing and analyzing donor proposals and reports from UNICEF Country Offices.
  • Conducting analyses of Japan's Official Development Assistance (ODA) for children.
  • Assisting in translation, report writing, and preparation of Japan-related documents and presentation materials.
  • Supporting the enhancement of donor visibility through the translation of press releases, videos, and human-interest stories, as well as producing content for communication platforms.
  • Gathering and organizing information to support UNICEF's advocacy messages for key counterparts and media.
  • Updating and improving the Tokyo office's website as necessary.
  • Providing logistical and administrative support for advocacy events, consultations, and workshops organized by the office.
  • Performing any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university or graduate school, or have graduated within the last two years. Professional experience is desirable. The intern should be available to work 4-5 days a week for a duration of 3-6 months and must be able to work according to Japan Standard Time (JST). Interest in child rights, health, nutrition, water and sanitation, education, child protection, gender, and climate change is essential. Experience or knowledge in international cooperation, humanitarian and development assistance, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">human security is desirable. Skills in project formulation and report writing, as well as experience in translating communication materials, public relations, event management, website management, and video editing are considered assets.

Educational Background:
A background in fields related to child rights, international relations, public policy, or similar areas is preferred. Candidates should have a strong academic record and relevant coursework that aligns with UNICEF's mission and the responsibilities of the internship.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have some level of experience, preferably in areas related to international cooperation, project management, or advocacy. Experience in report writing, translation, and public relations will be advantageous. Interns should demonstrate a proactive approach to learning and contributing to the team's objectives.

Languages:
A high level of proficiency in both written and oral English and Japanese is mandatory. This is crucial for effective communication within the team and with external stakeholders. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.

Additional Notes:
The internship is set to last from February 2026 to January 2027, with a flexible duration of more than 3 months, up to 6 months. The selected candidate will receive a stipend of JPY 5,500 per day, which includes transport costs. The work modality is negotiable, with a hybrid approach combining office work and teleworking.
