Job Overview: The National Consultant position is aimed at supporting the integration of nature-based climate solutions (NBCS) and gender equality within ecotourism and rural agricultural tourism initiatives in Vietnam. The consultant will be responsible for reviewing the current status of these sectors, providing recommendations for improved management practices, and developing gender-sensitive knowledge products that incorporate environmental safeguards. The consultant will also facilitate the establishment of communities of practice (CoPs) that engage various stakeholders, including women from rural and ethnic minority communities, in decision-making processes. The overall objective is to enhance sustainable livelihoods and promote women's leadership in ecotourism, thereby contributing to local resilience and resource conservation.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will undertake several key responsibilities, including:
Reviewing the current operational status of nature-based ecotourism (NBET) and rural agricultural tourism, and providing actionable recommendations for improvement.
Analyzing potential models for NBET and agricultural tourism products that align with resource conservation and sustainable livelihoods.
Developing gender-sensitive knowledge products that integrate environmental and social considerations into ecotourism models.
Leading the design and formalization of women-led CoPs that bring together practitioners, community representatives, and government agencies.
Supporting the creation of bankable business plans for eco-tourism initiatives that enhance local incomes and resilience.
Promoting women's leadership in CoP governance and decision-making processes.
Facilitating knowledge exchange and capacity-building initiatives to share best practices in sustainable tourism.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in environmental science, gender studies, or a related field. They should have proven experience in project management, particularly in the context of ecotourism or rural development. Familiarity with UNDP Social and Environmental Standards (SES) and nature-based solutions is essential. The consultant should demonstrate strong analytical skills, the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, and a commitment to promoting gender equality in development initiatives.
Educational Background: A minimum of a master's degree in environmental science, sustainable development, gender studies, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in project management or ecotourism will be considered an asset.
Experience: The position requires at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in the fields of ecotourism, rural development, or gender equality initiatives. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in a consultancy capacity, is highly desirable. Candidates should have a track record of successfully managing projects that involve multiple stakeholders and demonstrate an understanding of the socio-economic dynamics in rural Vietnam.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Proficiency in Vietnamese is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders. Knowledge of other languages relevant to the region may be considered an advantage.
