Job Overview: The Child Protection Specialist will work under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Child Protection section. The role involves coordinating and strengthening the Monitoring and Reporting System (MRM) for Haiti, ensuring effective monitoring of grave violations against children. The specialist will manage MRM information and reporting, promote partnerships within the Haiti Country Office, and support child protection actions in emergencies. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including UN agencies and local authorities, to enhance child protection measures and ensure the rights of children are upheld during security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security operations. The specialist will also engage in field missions and contribute to fundraising and reporting for MRM-related projects, ensuring timely and effective responses to child protection issues.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate and strengthen the Monitoring and Reporting System for Haiti, ensuring effective monitoring of grave violations against children.
Manage MRM information and reporting, including data analysis and transmission to relevant stakeholders.
Promote partnerships and coordination within the Haiti Country Office and with technical staff from regional and headquarters offices.
Support child protection actions in emergencies, addressing grave violations and programming for affected children.
Coordinate meetings and follow-up activities for the Country Task Force on Monitoring and Reporting (CTFMR) Secretariat.
Implement the Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism pursuant to Security Council resolution 1612 (2005).
Prepare and coordinate reports and briefings on behalf of the CTFMR Secretariat.
Keep stakeholders informed of developments affecting children in Haiti.
Contribute to fundraising and reporting for MRM-related projects. 1
Strengthen partnerships with UN and humanitarian actors to improve reporting and advocacy. 1
Liaise with national authorities to enhance child protection capacity. 1
Engage in field missions and joint assessments as directed. 1
Provide technical leadership for quality Child Protection in Emergencies (CPiE) programming. 1
Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of the Child Protection Unit.
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, political affairs, international relations, or law, particularly in promoting and protecting children's rights.
Experience with monitoring and reporting tools on child violations, particularly the MRM, is desirable.
Experience in UN field operations or comparable international organizations is desirable.
Experience in analyzing socio-economic, political, and security information impacting child protection is desirable.
Experience in drafting high-level reports on child rights is desirable.
Experience in armed violence, conflict, or post-conflict settings is desirable.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in fields such as political science, international relations, law, human rights, social sciences, or a related area. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of child protection and the legal frameworks surrounding children's rights.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience at national or international levels in areas related to human rights, political affairs, international relations, or law. This experience should include a focus on the promotion and protection of children's rights in accordance with international standards. Candidates with experience in monitoring and reporting tools, particularly in the context of child violations, will be preferred. Additionally, experience in UN field operations or similar international organizations, as well as in analyzing socio-economic and political factors affecting child protection, is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in French and English is required for this position. Knowledge of another UN official language is considered an asset, enhancing communication and collaboration in a diverse work environment.
