Job Overview:
The IT Specialist (Platform Engineering) position is a senior technical role within the Information Technology Department (ITD) at ADB. This role is crucial for designing, automating, and evolving the platforms that product teams utilize daily. The specialist will be responsible for transforming well-architected patterns into self-service capabilities, which will help reduce lead times, increase reliability, and allow staff to focus on delivering features. The overarching goal is to create secure, scalable, and automated platforms that facilitate efficient building processes at ADB. The specialist will work closely with various teams, including architects and product teams, to streamline workflows and integrate solutions, ensuring that ADB remains at the forefront of automation and cloud-native trends.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the IT Specialist (Platform Engineering) include evolving platform foundations by turning reference architectures into secure, observable, and scalable production-ready deployments. The specialist will automate processes by building infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, and self-service tooling, enabling product teams to quickly spin up resources. Additionally, the role involves engineering for resilience by designing systems for reliability, disaster recovery, and business continuity. The specialist will also embed security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security measures throughout the stack, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with peers to champion platform best practices. Tracking platform Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), conducting Root Cause Analysis (RCAs), and iterating on platforms for continuous improvement are also key responsibilities. The specialist will stay updated on emerging trends in automation and cloud-native technologies to enhance ADB's engineering practices.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related fields, preferably at the post-graduate level or equivalent. Advanced cloud certifications such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform are preferred. A minimum of 6 years of work experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or Platform roles is required, particularly in operating large-scale SaaS or microservice systems. International experience working in multiple countries is also essential. Candidates should have a deep mastery of Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform, Pulumi, Bicep, or CloudFormation, as well as configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet. Hands-on expertise with container orchestration tools like Kubernetes and service orchestration stacks is necessary. Solid coding skills in languages such as Go, Python, or TypeScript are required for building operators and automation at scale. Experience with CI/CD at an enterprise scale and policy-as-code frameworks is also necessary. Familiarity with observability tools and cloud cost optimization in cloud-native environments is optional. Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills are essential, along with proficiency in written and verbal English.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related fields. A post-graduate degree or equivalent is preferred, indicating a higher level of expertise and understanding of the field.

Experience:
The position requires at least 6 years of relevant work experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or Platform roles, specifically in environments that operate large-scale SaaS or microservice systems. Additional Notes:
This appointment is open to both internal and external applicants. The position is funded by a temporary funding source, meaning that the renewal of the appointment and its duration are contingent upon the availability of this funding. It is a fixed-term appointment with the option to renew, initially for a period of up to 2 years or until the Normal Retirement Date (NRD), whichever comes first. After the initial period, ADB may choose to renew the appointment for an additional 2 years based on various factors, including the need for the specific skills and experience of the staff member, funding availability, and performance. There is no limit to the number of renewals up to NRD, but this appointment is not convertible to a regular appointment.
