Job Overview:

The intern will work within the Partnerships/Climate Peace and Security Team, which is part of the Policy and Best Practices Service (PBPS) in the Division of Policy, Evaluation and Training (DEPT) of the Department of Peace Operations (DPO). The intern's role will involve supporting the team in various tasks related to climate issues and their intersection with peace and security, contributing to the development and dissemination of policies and best practices in peacekeeping operations. This internship offers a unique opportunity to engage with UN processes and gain insights into the workings of international diplomacy and policy-making.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a range of tasks that support the work of the Partnerships/Climate Peace and Security Team. These duties include assisting in data collection and extraction, conducting qualitative and quantitative data analysis, and managing information related to climate, peace, and security. The intern will track and review policies and documents relevant to the team's focus areas, monitor developments in the UN Security Council and other relevant bodies, and assist in preparing reports, concept papers, and policy documents. Additional responsibilities include attending conferences and meetings, taking notes, servicing these events, maintaining databases, editing content for learning products, and developing strategic communication materials. The intern may also be required to proofread and copyedit team documents and perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must be students in their final year of a bachelor's degree program or have completed a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. program. Experience in research, drafting reports, and preparing or editing policy documents is desirable. Familiarity with climate, peace, and security-related work or research is also preferred. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be pursuing or have completed a degree in a relevant field such as international relations, environmental studies, political science, or a related discipline. Proof of enrollment or completion of the degree program will be required during the application process.

Experience:
While prior experience is not mandatory, it is advantageous for candidates to have some background in research, policy analysis, or related fields. Experience in internships or volunteer positions that involve similar responsibilities will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.

Additional Notes:
This internship is unpaid and can be undertaken either full-time (35 hours per week) or part-time (20 hours per week).
