Job Overview: The Country Representative (CR) for PSI Nigeria is a pivotal leadership role that requires a visionary and strategic individual to guide the organization through its next phase of transformative impact. The CR will be responsible for anchoring PSI Nigeria within the evolving health landscape of the country, ensuring alignment with national health priorities and PSI's global strategy. This role involves high-level representation, strategic program leadership, technical stewardship, and people management. The CR will actively cultivate funding opportunities, build relationships with key stakeholders, and oversee the development of competitive proposals to expand and diversify PSI Nigeria's health and development portfolio. The CR will also lead the Senior Management Team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability while ensuring compliance with donor expectations and organizational standards.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Country Representative will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
Cultivating and securing funding opportunities that align with PSI Nigeria's strategic vision and programmatic priorities, identifying new opportunities across various sectors.
Building and maintaining strong relationships with institutional donors, foundations, UN agencies, government stakeholders, and implementing partners.
Overseeing the development of high-quality proposals and strategic donor engagement efforts to ensure long-term sustainability and measurable impact.
Providing visionary leadership to steer PSI Nigeria's direction in alignment with the organization's global mission and Nigeria's national health priorities.
Ensuring compliance with all activities, including financial standards, program quality assurance, and donor regulations, while implementing audit recommendations.
Overseeing program budgets and financial controls, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
Developing and enforcing administrative policies for field offices, promoting an ethical environment in line with PSI's values, and ensuring the safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security of staff and assets.
Embodying PSI's values of Measurement, Pragmatism, Honesty, Trust, Collaboration, and Commitment, and engaging in international travel as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree (or international equivalent) in a related field, with a Master's Degree (or international equivalent) preferred. A minimum of 10 years of senior-level leadership experience in public health or development programs, particularly in Nigeria or similar contexts, is required. Additionally, candidates should have at least 5 years of supervisory experience and a proven ability to navigate political and donor environments. A strong track record in successful fundraising and managing complex donor portfolios, such as USAID, Gates Foundation, and Global Fund, is essential. Fluency in English with excellent writing skills is mandatory, and foreign language skills may be required depending on the location.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field, with a preference for candidates holding a Master's Degree in areas such as Business Administration (MBA), Public Administration (MPA), or Public Health (MPH). This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of public health and development programs and for effectively leading PSI Nigeria's initiatives.
Experience: The position requires at least 10 years of senior-level leadership experience in public health or development programs, particularly within Nigeria or similar contexts. Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience, demonstrating their ability to lead teams and manage complex projects effectively. Experience in navigating political and donor environments, engaging with senior government officials, and leading high-stakes negotiations is crucial for success in this role.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent writing skills required. Depending on the location, proficiency in additional foreign languages may be beneficial and is considered an asset for the position.
Additional Notes: This position is only open to Nigerian candidates or those with the legal right to live and work in Nigeria. The role is based in Abuja and involves on-site work. The Country Representative will report to the Regional Representative for East and Southern Africa and will collaborate closely with PSI's global support teams. The position may require 10-25% international travel.
