Job Overview:
The National Consultant-Junior Engineer position is part of the Khagrachari ERRD-CHT project, which is aimed at enhancing the resilience of communities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh. The consultant will be responsible for providing engineering expertise and support in the planning, design, and implementation of infrastructure projects that contribute to the overall goals of the project. This role requires a strong understanding of engineering principles, project management, and community engagement. The consultant will work closely with local stakeholders, government agencies, and UNDP teams to ensure that project objectives are met effectively and efficiently. The assignment is expected to last for 90 days over a period of 6 months, from February to July 2026, and will involve both fieldwork and office-based tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: conducting site assessments and surveys to gather data for project planning; preparing detailed engineering designs and specifications for infrastructure projects; collaborating with local communities to understand their needs and incorporate their feedback into project designs; ensuring compliance with relevant engineering standards and regulations; assisting in the procurement process for construction materials and services; monitoring project progress and providing regular updates to UNDP and stakeholders; conducting quality control checks during construction to ensure adherence to designs; preparing technical reports and documentation related to project activities; and participating in capacity-building activities for local engineers and community members.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in civil engineering or a related field, with a focus on infrastructure development. They should have a solid understanding of engineering principles, project management, and community engagement practices. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. Proficiency in relevant engineering software and tools is also required, along with excellent communication skills in both written and spoken formats.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field is required for this position. Advanced degrees or certifications in project management or related areas will be considered an asset. Candidates should have a strong academic background that demonstrates their knowledge and understanding of engineering principles and practices.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 2-3 years of relevant work experience in civil engineering, particularly in the context of infrastructure development projects. Experience working with international organizations, government agencies, or in community development projects will be highly regarded. Familiarity with the local context and challenges in the Chittagong Hill Tracts will be an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in this language. Proficiency in Bengali or local dialects spoken in the Khagrachari region will be considered a significant advantage, as it will facilitate better communication with local communities and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified as an individual contractor role, and the contract duration is for 90 days over a period of 6 months. The consultant will be expected to work both in the field and from the UNDP office in Khagrachari. The position is full-time, and candidates should be prepared to engage with local communities and stakeholders actively.
