Job Overview: The IT Associate position at UNHCR involves providing reliable and timely IT services related to application and infrastructure support within the Area of Responsibility (AoR). The IT Associate will also be responsible for assessing IT needs in field operations, installing and configuring IT systems, and ensuring that all equipment is in good working condition. This position is crucial for supporting UNHCR's mission in emergency operations and field settings, where reliable IT infrastructure is essential for effective communication and coordination.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the IT Associate include assisting in on-site needs assessments, installing and maintaining UNHCR telecommunications and IT equipment, and establishing IT requirements in field operations. The IT Associate will install and configure various types of IT and telecommunications systems, ensure that all equipment is functioning properly, and maintain accurate records of installations and repairs. The role also involves monitoring and maintaining local area networks (LAN), managing user access, and providing technical training to local IT resources and users. The IT Associate will be responsible for troubleshooting incidents and problems, escalating issues when necessary, and supporting risk management efforts. Additionally, the IT Associate will perform other related duties as required, contributing to the overall effectiveness of UNHCR's IT services.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the IT Associate position must have a minimum of three years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma, or two years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Essential qualifications include experience with HF/VHF radio or IT systems, as well as familiarity with PAMA satellite systems, PABX, Cisco routers, and satellite modems. Hands-on experience with wireless and VoIP systems, electricity, generators, and lightning protection is desirable. Previous experience in emergency settings is considered an advantage. Candidates should also possess strong computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office productivity software.
Educational Background: The educational background required for the IT Associate position includes a High School Diploma as a minimum, with a Bachelor’s degree or higher being advantageous.
