Job Overview: The Education Officer will be instrumental in the rollout of NRC’s education programming in Taiz, particularly focusing on Non-Formal Education (NFE) initiatives. This role involves overseeing the daily delivery of educational activities, which includes planning, community engagement, and ensuring the integration of child protection measures within learning environments. The Education Officer will be responsible for identifying and retaining learners, training teachers and facilitators, and monitoring educational outcomes through structured assessments. The position requires a proactive and adaptable approach, as well as strong coordination with both internal teams and external partners to ensure that educational interventions are effective, evidence-based, and responsive to the needs of conflict-affected children and youth. The officer will also play a key role in addressing the educational gaps faced by out-of-school children and adolescents, providing them with inclusive and flexible learning opportunities that can help them reintegrate into formal education or pursue alternative pathways.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Education Officer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: leading the planning and implementation of NFE activities such as remedial education, basic literacy and numeracy (BLN), and accelerated learning programs (ALP) in targeted locations. The officer will ensure that all activities adhere to NRC standards and are aligned with project objectives and donor guidelines. Responsibilities also include providing technical oversight to consortium partners, documenting field progress, and maintaining clear communication channels. The officer will be tasked with identifying and enrolling out-of-school children, conducting field monitoring visits to assess teaching quality, and supporting the training of facilitators. Additionally, the officer will coordinate logistics for learning materials, represent NRC in local education meetings, and ensure that safeguarding and inclusion standards are met across all implementation sites. The role also involves collaborating with monitoring and evaluation teams to track learners' academic progress and adapt programming as necessary.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Education Officer position must possess a strong set of qualifications, including substantial knowledge of Non-Formal Education programs and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. The role requires excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders. A commitment to NRC's values, including promoting gender equity and the interests of marginalized groups, is essential. The officer should also have a proven ability to lead teams and manage partnerships effectively, demonstrating a capacity for strategic thinking and influencing others.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, or a related field is required for this position. Candidates with formal education in rural development or protection will also be considered. The educational background should reflect a strong understanding of the principles of education in emergencies and community-based education.
Experience: The position requires at least three years of experience in Education in Emergencies (EiE) and the implementation of Non-Formal Education programs. Candidates should have proven experience in stakeholder coordination, community mobilization, and partnership management. Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation tools and methodologies is also essential, along with strong report-writing skills in both English and Arabic. Knowledge of the Yemeni context, particularly in Taiz Governorate, is highly desirable, as is experience working in insecure environments.
Languages: Fluency in both English and Arabic is mandatory for this position, as effective communication with local communities and stakeholders is crucial. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.
Additional Notes: This position is full-time and may involve travel within Southern Governorates. The role is designed for individuals who can work flexibly and are willing to adapt to changing circumstances in a challenging environment.
