Job Overview: The intern will primarily support the GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP) by engaging in various tasks that contribute to the program's objectives. This role involves assisting in the organization of workshops and training sessions, which are crucial for capacity building among stakeholders. The intern will also be responsible for project monitoring and evaluation, which includes preparing related documents such as project reports and publications. A significant part of the role involves translating, proofreading, and editing SGP-related documents to ensure clarity and accuracy in communication. The intern will maintain and update project information on internal databases and websites, ensuring that all data is current and accessible. Regular communication with NGO partners via email is essential, as is supporting the review and publication of materials on social media and other outreach platforms. The intern will attend meetings, draft minutes, and assist with administrative and financial actions related to project recruitment and procurement. This position requires flexibility and the ability to perform various ad hoc assignments as needed by the team, making it a dynamic and engaging opportunity for individuals interested in environmental sustainability and international development.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern's duties and responsibilities include:
Supporting the organization of workshops and training sessions for stakeholders involved in the GEF Small Grants Programme.
Assisting in the preparation and evaluation of project-related documents, including reports and publications.
Translating, proofreading, and editing documents related to the SGP to ensure high-quality communication.
Drafting and updating project information on internal databases and the SGP website.
Maintaining regular communication with NGO partners through email correspondence.
Supporting the content review and publication of materials from NGO partners on social media and other outreach platforms.
Attending meetings and drafting detailed meeting minutes for record-keeping and follow-up actions.
Assisting with administrative and financial tasks related to project recruitment and procurement processes.
Performing other ad hoc assignments as required by the team to support the overall objectives of the SGP.
Required Qualifications: The position requires the following qualifications:
Fluency in both English and Chinese, with strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages.
Proficiency in using computers and office software packages, including MS Word and Excel, as well as knowledge of spreadsheet and database management.
A general understanding of the work of NGOs, environmental sustainability, and international development issues.
Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in documentation and proofreading tasks.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively under tight deadlines.
A proactive and self-motivated attitude, capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
Familiarity with social media platforms, content publishing, and basic design tools is considered an asset.
Educational Background: Candidates for the internship should ideally possess a Master’s degree in environment or international development. Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application:
Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program (such as a master’s program or higher).
Be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (such as a bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in the previous points) and must start the internship within one year of graduation.
Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program. Experience in developing research communication products is advantageous.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have relevant experience that may include internships or volunteer work in fields related to environmental management, international development, or communications. While specific years of experience are not mandated, familiarity with project management, research, and communication strategies will be beneficial. Experience in developing communication products and engaging with NGOs or similar organizations is also considered an asset.
Languages: Fluency in both English and Chinese is mandatory for this position. Excellent written and spoken communication skills in these languages are essential for effective collaboration and documentation. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered a plus but is not required.
Additional Notes: Interns may receive a stipend according to UNDP Internship Policies, provided they are not financially supported by any institution or program. Interns, whether working in-person or remotely, are responsible for securing adequate medical insurance for the duration of their internship and must provide self-certification of good health prior to starting. Any costs arising from accidents or illness during the internship will be the intern's responsibility. Additionally, interns must obtain necessary visas and arrange travel to and from the duty station, with costs related to travel, visas, accommodations, and living expenses being the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring institution.
