Job Overview:
The position of Individual Consultant for the Hydrogeological Study in the Ahuachapan Sur area involves conducting a comprehensive hydrogeological study that is crucial for the management of water resources in the region. The consultant will be responsible for developing a conceptual model that is applicable to community water management. This will include analyzing and interpreting data provided by local water boards regarding the physicochemical and bacteriological quality of water. The consultant will also conduct a diagnosis of the quality of water sources and perform selective monitoring of environmental isotopes (18O, 2H). Active participation from local water boards is expected to ensure that the study meets community needs and is effectively integrated into local water management practices. The consultant's work will be pivotal in generating actionable insights that can guide water management strategies in the Ahuachapan Sur project area.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct a detailed hydrogeological study of the Ahuachapan Sur area, focusing on the influence of the project on local water resources.
  • Analyze and interpret data related to the physicochemical and bacteriological quality of water provided by local water boards.
  • Develop a comprehensive conceptual model that aids in community water management.
  • Perform a diagnostic assessment of the quality of water from various sources of supply.
  • Monitor environmental isotopes (18O, 2H) to understand the hydrological dynamics in the area.
  • Collaborate with local water boards to ensure their active participation in the study.
  • Prepare and submit a final report detailing findings, methodologies, and recommendations for water management.
  • Respond to any queries or requests for clarification from UNDP regarding the study.
  • Ensure compliance with all UNDP procurement processes and guidelines throughout the consultancy.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven expertise in hydrogeology or a related field, with a strong understanding of water resource management.
  • Experience in conducting hydrogeological studies, particularly in community settings.
  • Familiarity with the physicochemical and bacteriological analysis of water.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data sets.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with local communities and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of environmental isotopes and their application in hydrogeological studies is an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet project deadlines.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Water Resource Management, or a related field is required. A PhD in a relevant discipline would be considered an asset. Additional certifications or training in hydrogeological modeling or water quality assessment would be beneficial.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in hydrogeology or water resource management is required. Experience working with local communities and understanding their water management needs is essential. Previous consultancy experience with UNDP or similar organizations would be an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as the work will be conducted in El Salvador. Proficiency in English is desirable but not required. Knowledge of other local languages may be beneficial for community engagement.

Additional Notes:
The consultancy will have a maximum duration of 190 days. This is a contract for an individual consultant (natural person). The consultant is expected to submit proposals directly through the UNDP supplier portal before the specified deadline. No proposals will be accepted through alternative means. The consultant must ensure they are registered on the UNDP supplier portal and follow all guidelines for submission. The position is not full-time, and the consultant will work on a flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of the project.
