The role involves supporting project implementation, conducting research, and participating in capacity-building events. Interns will assist in coordinating multi-stakeholder meetings and workshops, thereby enhancing their understanding of the complexities involved in integrating human rights into business operations. Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Portfolio implementation and coordination (50%): Providing technical support for the Business and Human Rights Asia portfolio, assisting in organizing multi-stakeholder meetings, workshops, and regional events, conducting desk research on relevant issues, and coordinating with internal and external partners to ensure timely delivery of activities.
Other duties (25%): Engaging in additional program support as needed, participating in selected portfolio activities aligned with the intern's learning objectives, and adapting to evolving portfolio needs.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate a strong interest in international development and business and human rights. They should possess excellent organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively, and a collaborative spirit to work in a multicultural team environment. Interns should exhibit sound judgment and professionalism, particularly in handling sensitive information. Adaptability to diverse cultural contexts and a proactive approach to feedback and learning are also essential qualities for this role.
Educational Background: Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements: currently in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree, currently enrolled in a Master’s degree, or have graduated no longer than one year ago from a bachelor’s or master’s degree in fields such as law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">International Law, Political Science, International Relations, Global Governance, Business Administration, Business and Human Rights, or Sustainability.
Experience: While specific prior experience is not mandatory, candidates should demonstrate foundational knowledge of business and human rights, responsible business conduct, and sustainability. Experience in supporting program coordination, data collection, and reporting will be advantageous. Interns should be proficient in Microsoft Office tools and familiar with virtual meeting platforms.
Languages: Fluency in English is required, and knowledge of other UN languages is considered an advantage. This linguistic capability will facilitate effective communication within the diverse UNDP environment and enhance the intern's ability to engage with various stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The internship is unpaid, but a monthly stipend will be provided in accordance with UNDP's internship policy. Interns are responsible for their own expenses, including travel, accommodation, and health insurance. The internship is expected to be full-time, with some flexibility allowed for educational commitments. Interns must secure necessary visas and are not eligible for employment with UNDP during the internship period.
