Job Overview: The Website Maintenance and Support Officer position is integral to the Communications and Results Reporting Section (CRRS) of the DCO. The role focuses on ensuring that UN Country Team (UNCT) websites are up-to-date, accessible, and functional. The officer will provide timely support for routine maintenance and content updates, ensuring that the websites align with UN branding and accessibility standards. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including UNCT website managers and technical teams, to enhance the digital presence of the UN's development efforts. The officer will also be responsible for monitoring website performance and providing user support, making this role crucial for effective communication and information dissemination within the UN system.
Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible for a variety of tasks related to the maintenance and support of UNCT websites. Key duties include:
Content Management: Uploading and updating text, images, and multimedia content on UNCT websites as requested. Ensuring that all content is formatted correctly, tagged appropriately, and compliant with UN branding and accessibility standards. Supporting multi-language content updates and performing basic translations as needed.
Website Maintenance: Conducting regular quality assurance checks to identify broken links, missing images, and ensuring page responsiveness. Monitoring site uptime and promptly reporting any technical issues to the technical team or vendor. Assisting with minor troubleshooting for Content Management System (CMS)-related issues.
User Support: Providing first-level support to UNCT website managers and focal points, responding to queries regarding content updates and basic functionality. Sharing quick guides and best practices for using the CMS effectively.
Basic Monitoring: Tracking website performance indicators such as traffic and engagement using tools like Google Analytics, and providing simple monthly summaries of findings. Flagging recurring issues or trends for escalation to relevant teams.
Collaboration: Supporting digital communities of practice by sharing updates, guidelines, and maintaining asset repositories in consultation with UNCTs to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, marketing" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">digital marketing, computer science, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. For candidates holding a relevant master’s degree, no prior work experience is required. However, candidates with a bachelor’s degree must have a minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, digital marketing, web development, or related areas. Additionally, experience in collaborating with technical, creative, and editorial teams to maintain multilingual websites using Drupal or comparable Content Management Systems (CMS) is essential. Experience in performing quality assurance reviews and monitoring website performance using Google Analytics or similar tools is desirable, as is experience in building and supporting online collaboration platforms using Microsoft 365 or comparable productivity software.
Educational Background: The position requires an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as communication, journalism, international relations, digital marketing, computer science, or a related area. A first-level university degree may be accepted in combination with qualifying experience, allowing for flexibility in educational qualifications depending on the candidate's professional background.
Experience: The level of experience required varies based on the educational qualifications of the candidate. For those with a relevant master’s degree, no work experience is necessary. However, candidates with a bachelor’s degree must have at least two years of progressively responsible experience in fields such as public information, journalism, international relations, digital marketing, or web development. Experience in maintaining multilingual websites and performing quality assurance reviews is also crucial for this role.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of one or more official UN languages is considered desirable, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively within the UN system and support multilingual content updates.
