Job Overview:
The Senior Driver Protocol is a vital role within UNICEF’s Protocol Section, responsible for providing safe, reliable, and timely transportation services. This position goes beyond driving, as it involves supporting various protocol and administrative functions, including the delivery and collection of official documents, assisting with visa and customs procedures, and facilitating airport protocol services for staff and visitors. The role requires effective coordination with various units and maintaining confidentiality during official missions. The Senior Driver Protocol is expected to ensure the proper maintenance of vehicles and assist in troubleshooting minor protocol-related issues, thereby contributing to the overall efficiency of the Protocol Section.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide safe and reliable transportation for staff, visitors, and official personnel to government offices, embassies, and airports.
  • Assist with airport protocol duties, including greeting staff and VIPs and facilitating customs and immigration processes.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of assigned vehicles, conducting routine checks and reporting necessary repairs.
  • Support the timely delivery and pickup of official documents for certification or submission.
  • Liaise with various units, including Administration, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security escorts, and government protocol staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive conversations during missions.
  • Assist in preparing and submitting documents to relevant authorities.
  • Help facilitate customs clearance and vehicle registration processes.
  • Collect and organize protocol documents for filing and archiving. 1
  • Represent the Protocol Section at external events when required. 1
  • Conduct daily vehicle checks and ensure a professional appearance of the vehicle. 1
  • Record trips in log books and report mechanical issues immediately. 1
  • Operate vehicle tracking systems and communicate effectively with security and administrative teams. 1
  • Share knowledge and train junior drivers on safety protocols and digital systems. 1
  • Participate in learning and development activities during downtimes, including enrolling in relevant courses and attending safety briefings.

Required Qualifications:
  • A secondary education is required.
  • A valid driver’s license and knowledge of local driving rules and regulations are essential.
  • Minimum three years of work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system with a safe driving record is required.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language or local language of the duty station is considered an asset.
  • Relevant experience in development, fragile settings, and humanitarian contexts is desirable.

Educational Background:
The position requires a secondary education level, which serves as the foundational educational background necessary for the role. Additionally, candidates must possess a valid driver’s license, demonstrating their capability to operate vehicles legally and safely within the local context.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of three years of work experience as a driver, specifically within international organizations, embassies, or the UN system. This experience should include a proven safe driving record, indicating reliability and adherence to safety protocols while driving in various contexts.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and Arabic is required for this position, ensuring effective communication within the diverse environment of UNICEF. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, or the local language of the duty station, is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's profile.
