Job Overview:
The Anticipatory Action Project Manager role is crucial for the effective management of DRC’s anticipatory action project in Abyei. This position is responsible for ensuring that the project is implemented in a timely, effective, and high-quality manner. The Project Manager will support the development of new initiatives related to anticipatory action, which includes project design, planning, and resource mobilization. The role requires strong leadership skills as it involves line management of the project team, coordination with other DRC sectors and projects in the same geographic area, and active representation of DRC with local stakeholders, authorities, partners, and national-level coordination platforms. The Project Manager will be expected to lead day-to-day project delivery, ensuring that activities are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. This position is integral to the success of the project and the overall mission of DRC in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Manager will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities including:
  • Project Management & Implementation: Lead the daily operations of the project, ensuring that all activities are executed on schedule, within the allocated budget, and meet quality standards. This includes close coordination with support departments such as Finance, Supply Chain, HR, MEAL, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security, managing risks effectively, and conducting regular field monitoring to assess progress.
  • Financial Management & Reporting: Oversee the financial aspects of the project, including budget management, forecasting, expenditure tracking, and implementing financial controls. Ensure that narrative and financial reports are accurate and submitted on time, adhering to both donor and internal requirements.
  • Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning (MEAL): Ensure that reliable data is collected, performance is tracked, and results are analyzed for continuous improvement. Support the documentation of learning, success stories, and visibility materials to enhance project impact.
  • Team Leadership & Capacity Building: Line-manage project staff, providing coaching and performance management to foster staff development. Ensure that the project is adequately staffed and that operational resources are in place, while promoting staff well-being.
  • Programme Development & Strategy: Contribute to the development of proposals, budgeting, needs assessments, donor engagement, and strategic learning. Identify opportunities for innovation and program expansion to enhance the effectiveness of DRC’s interventions.
  • Coordination & Internal Integration: Strengthen collaboration with other DRC projects and departments to ensure alignment, efficiency, and shared learning across the organization.
  • Representation & External Engagement: Act as the representative of DRC in local coordination forums and support national-level engagement with authorities, partners, donors, and community stakeholders.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Line Manager to support the overall objectives of the organization.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in fields such as Peace/Security, Social Sciences, International Development, Business Management, or a related area. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing humanitarian, development, and/or peacebuilding projects, particularly in complex or fragile contexts. A minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience is required, with a proven track record in project cycle management, including proposal development, budget management, and donor reporting. Candidates should also have a solid understanding of finance and supply chain processes, and previous experience in protection, peacebuilding, community-based approaches, conflict sensitivity, and/or conflict analysis is highly desirable. Experience in qualitative data collection and analysis is also beneficial.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include a Bachelor’s degree as a minimum, with a preference for candidates holding a Master’s degree in relevant fields such as Peace/Security, Social Sciences, International Development, Business Management, or similar disciplines. This educational background is essential to equip the candidate with the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to manage complex projects effectively.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have 3–5 years of experience in managing humanitarian, development, and/or peacebuilding projects, particularly in complex or fragile contexts. This experience should include team management and a strong understanding of project cycle management, which encompasses proposal development, budget management, and donor reporting. Candidates should also demonstrate a solid understanding of finance and supply chain processes, as well as previous experience in areas such as protection, peacebuilding, community-based approaches, conflict sensitivity, and conflict analysis. Experience in qualitative data collection and analysis is also highly desirable, as it contributes to the overall effectiveness of the project management process.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Excellent communication skills are essential, as the Project Manager will need to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to the local context in which the project operates.
