Job Overview:
The position involves conducting a public perception study on climate change and environmental rights in the Maldives. The consultant will be responsible for gathering data on public awareness and perceptions regarding environmental rights, which will serve as a baseline for future studies. This role is crucial for integrating standardized perception indicators into subsequent iterations of the study.   • The consultant will work closely with UNDP Maldives to ensure that the study meets its objectives and contributes to the broader goals of environmental awareness and rights in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be tasked with the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Design and develop a comprehensive methodology for the public perception study, ensuring it aligns with UNDP standards and objectives.
  • Conduct literature reviews and background research on climate change and environmental rights in the Maldives.
  • Develop survey instruments and tools for data collection, including questionnaires and interview guides.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community groups, to gather insights and perspectives on environmental rights.
  • Collect quantitative and qualitative data through surveys, interviews, and focus group discussions.
  • Analyze the data collected to identify trends, gaps, and areas of concern regarding public perceptions of climate change and environmental rights.
  • Prepare a comprehensive report detailing the findings of the study, including recommendations for future actions and policies.
  • Present the findings to UNDP and relevant stakeholders, facilitating discussions on the implications of the results.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:
  • Proven experience in conducting public perception studies or similar research projects, particularly in the field of environmental issues.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data sets.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present findings clearly and effectively.
  • Familiarity with climate change and environmental rights issues, particularly in the context of the Maldives.
  • Proficiency in using statistical analysis software and data visualization tools.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in Environmental Science, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field is required. Candidates with a PhD in a relevant discipline will be given preference. Additional certifications in research methodologies or data analysis will be advantageous.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in conducting research, particularly in public perception studies or environmental assessments. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs in the Maldives or similar contexts is highly desirable. Proven track record of successfully managing research projects from inception to completion is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all reports and communications will be conducted in English. Knowledge of Dhivehi, the local language of the Maldives, is considered an asset and will enhance the consultant's ability to engage with local communities and stakeholders effectively.

Additional Notes:
This position is for an individual contractor and is expected to be a full-time engagement for the duration of the assignment. The contract will last for 81 days, with flexibility in scheduling to accommodate the research timeline. The consultant will be required to submit proposals directly through the UNDP supplier portal, and any inquiries regarding the tender must be submitted in writing through the portal's messaging functionality. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and in line with UNDP standards.
