Job Overview: The Youth Engagement Analyst position is integral to UNDP Nepal's project 'Advancing Civic Engagement for Democratic Participation.' This role aims to enhance youth participation in governance and civic engagement, particularly focusing on marginalized groups. The analyst will provide technical support to ensure the project's objectives are met, including promoting political literacy, civic education, and fostering trust between citizens and the state. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including civil society, academic institutions, and government bodies, to create an inclusive environment for youth participation. The analyst will also be responsible for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of youth engagement initiatives, ensuring that the voices of young people, especially women and marginalized communities, are heard and considered in governance processes.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Youth Engagement Analyst will coordinate youth-related activities to ensure effective project implementation, working closely with project teams to support the formulation and execution of project work plans. Responsibilities include engaging in daily operations of youth-focused initiatives, assisting in the preparation of reports, and supporting the establishment of youth councils and civic forums. The analyst will collect and track youth-related practices, document participation trends, and facilitate coordination with youth-led organizations and civil society partners. Additionally, the analyst will provide capacity development support on civic, political, and digital literacy, design training modules, and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs. The role also involves applying gender equality and social inclusion principles, generating evidence for advocacy, ensuring compliance with UNDP policies, and facilitating knowledge sharing among stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in development work, including project implementation and coordination in governance, civic engagement, or related fields. A strong understanding of local governance and experience working with youth, women, and marginalized communities is essential. Proficiency in computer applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required. Desired skills include experience in designing and delivering training programs, knowledge of gender-sensitive conflict analysis, and the ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders. Strong analytical, writing, and documentation skills are also necessary for this role.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Governance, Peace and Conflict Management, Political Sciences, Social Studies, International Development, Human Rights, Law, or related fields is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in the stated areas combined with an additional two years of qualifying experience will be considered.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of experience with a master’s degree or 4 years with a bachelor’s degree in relevant fields. Experience should include direct work with local partners and civil society organizations, as well as knowledge of governance and civic engagement processes. Proven experience in supporting youth organizations and conducting evidence-based advocacy initiatives is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in written and oral English and Nepali is required for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders.
