Duties and Responsibilities: The Assistant Human Rights Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Identifying human rights issues and planning interventions to address violence against women and girls with disabilities.
Contributing to the development of response strategies and project activities that empower marginalized groups.
Assisting in partnership building and advocacy efforts to promote human rights, particularly for persons with disabilities.
Liaising with government agencies, NGOs, and civil society organizations to strengthen strategic partnerships.
Supporting awareness-raising activities related to the human rights situation of marginalized groups.
Contributing to the production of reports and analytical documents on human rights issues.
Supporting the OHCHR with any other relevant tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong understanding of human rights principles, particularly concerning the rights of persons with disabilities. The role requires the ability to conduct research, analyze data, and draft reports on human rights issues. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, effective communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in law, human rights, political science, international relations, social sciences, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: Candidates with a first-level university degree must have a minimum of two years of experience in human rights, political affairs, international relations, law, or a related area. No prior experience is required for candidates holding an advanced university degree. Experience in promoting the rights of persons with disabilities, particularly women with disabilities, is considered desirable.
Languages: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, proficiency in English is required, along with Romanian and Russian. Knowledge of Bulgarian, Ukrainian, and Romany is desirable. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in these languages according to the UN Language Framework.
