The OSCE works to ensure security through political dialogue and practical efforts aimed at building and sustaining peace and stability for over a billion people. The organization adopts a comprehensive approach to security that encompasses three dimensions: politico-military, economic and environmental, and human. The OSCE Mission to Moldova is one of its operational arms, focusing on various aspects of security and cooperation in the region.
Job Overview: The OSCE Mission to Moldova is seeking qualified candidates for internships that will last between 2 to 6 months, focusing on both administrative and programmatic areas. Interns will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the daily workings of the OSCE, gaining insights into the organization’s mandate and operations. This internship program is designed to enhance professional skills and provide practical experience in a multinational environment. Interns will also have the chance to network with professionals and fellow young individuals who share similar interests, fostering a collaborative learning atmosphere. The internships are full-time, requiring a commitment of 40 hours per week, and are exclusively available to nationals of OSCE participating States or Partners for Co-operation. The start dates for selected candidates will be contingent upon the needs of the hiring offices, and the total duration of the internship is capped at six months for any individual, after which further applications will not be considered.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns can expect to engage in a variety of tasks that may include drafting research papers, policy reports, concept papers, and other written materials such as briefing papers, memos, talking points, speeches, documents, newsletters, and presentations. They will assist in project management and implementation, which involves preparing project proposals and budgets, as well as compiling progress reports for donors. Interns will conduct thematic research, assist in revising legal documents, prepare legal opinions, monitor media, and conduct surveys or financial analyses. They will support communication-related events and outreach activities, including website updates, creating booklets and leaflets, and developing audio-visual content for social media. Additionally, interns will help organize events, meetings, regional workshops, press conferences, and round-tables, and will attend meetings of OSCE decision-making bodies, taking minutes and drafting official records. They will also support daily operational work in administrative departments such as human resources, financial services, supply chain management, and information technology. Furthermore, interns will assist senior managers in preparing for trips and meetings by compiling background documents and managing logistics.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be under the age of 30 and should be in their final year of higher education at the graduate or postgraduate level, or within two years of graduation by the application deadline. Proficiency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory, along with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely. A working knowledge of Russian or Romanian is considered an asset. Candidates should demonstrate high motivation, open-mindedness, and flexibility, and must be able to establish effective working relationships with individuals from diverse national, cultural, and religious backgrounds while maintaining impartiality and objectivity. Awareness of gender perspectives in tasks and activities is also essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.
Educational Background: The position requires candidates to be in their final year of higher education at the graduate or postgraduate level or to have graduated within the last two years by the application deadline. This educational background is crucial as it ensures that candidates possess the necessary theoretical knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the OSCE's mission and objectives.
Experience: While previous work experience in a relevant field is desirable, it is not mandatory. However, candidates with experience in a multilateral or multicultural environment will be at an advantage. The internship is designed to provide practical experience, so candidates with limited professional experience are still encouraged to apply, as the OSCE values fresh perspectives and the potential for growth.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all communication and documentation will primarily be in English. A working knowledge of Russian or Romanian is advantageous and will enhance the candidate's ability to engage with a broader range of stakeholders and materials.
Additional Notes: The OSCE does not provide any remuneration or cover expenses incurred by interns during their stay, including travel, lodging, living expenses, and health insurance. Interns are expected to arrange their own accommodations and living costs. However, the OSCE Mission to Moldova will contribute towards the cost of living for international interns who are non-residents at the duty station, providing an amount equivalent to 10% of the applicable BLA rate (approximately EUR 11.90 per day). Interns may participate in a group health insurance scheme at their own expense, while the OSCE will cover life and accident/disability insurance. It is important to note that the internship does not guarantee future employment with the OSCE. Candidates must apply through the OSCE's online application link and indicate their availability dates in their cover letter. Only selected candidates will be contacted for further recruitment stages. The OSCE is committed to diversity and inclusion, encouraging qualified candidates from all backgrounds to apply.
