Job Overview:
The Consultant for Geospatial Information Applications will be responsible for developing innovative methods using big data and artificial intelligence to identify potential locations for retention ponds in the Cimanuk-Cisanggarung Water Basin. This role is critical in improving flood mitigation and water management knowledge, thereby enhancing resilience against climate change impacts. The consultant will also support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6, which focuses on clean water and sanitation, by ensuring the sustainable management of water resources. The position requires collaboration with local government stakeholders and the organization of capacity development activities for technical experts and other stakeholders. The consultant will work under the supervision of the Chief of Section and Project Manager, contributing to the overall objectives of the Asia-Pacific Plan of Action on Space Applications for Sustainable Development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will undertake several key tasks, including consulting with local government stakeholders to understand their needs and challenges regarding water management and disaster risk reduction. They will also be responsible for organizing and delivering capacity development activities aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of technical experts and stakeholders involved in water resource management. The consultant will leverage integrated geospatial data applications to support local governments in evaluating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals. This includes conducting needs assessments, developing action plans, and utilizing AI-based models to predict retention pond locations based on various environmental factors. The consultant will play a vital role in bridging regional resources in geospatial information applications and ensuring that local governments can effectively integrate sectoral data with satellite-derived data for informed decision-making.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree in engineering, space science, GIS, or related fields. A minimum of 15 years of working experience in geospatial information applications is required, particularly in collaboration with city-level decision-makers and policymakers. The consultant should have a strong background in capacity development, SDG monitoring, and mapping. Knowledge and experience in tropical Asia are essential, with at least 10 years of experience specifically in Indonesia. Proficiency in big Earth data analysis, remote sensing, and geospatial data analysis software is also required.

Educational Background:
An advanced degree in engineering, space science, GIS, or a related field is mandatory for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of geospatial information applications and their relevance to sustainable development and disaster risk reduction.

Experience:
The position requires at least 15 years of relevant working experience, particularly in the field of geospatial information applications. Candidates should have a proven track record of working with city-level decision-makers and policymakers, as well as experience in capacity development and SDG monitoring. Specific experience in Indonesia for a minimum of 10 years is also required, highlighting the importance of local knowledge and context in the role.

Languages:
Fluency in English is a mandatory requirement for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the United Nations. Additionally, working proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia is considered an advantage, as it will facilitate better communication and collaboration with local stakeholders and government officials.
