Job Overview: As the Deputy General Counsel at ADB, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the legal framework and policies that govern the organization. This position requires a strategic thinker who can provide high-level policy advice and support to the General Counsel, ensuring that ADB's legal interests are protected while also facilitating its mission to promote sustainable development in the region. Duties and Responsibilities: The Deputy General Counsel will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: supporting the General Counsel in implementing OGC's work plan; providing legal services and advice to various departments and the Board of Directors; mitigating legal risks and ensuring the consistency of legal advice; supervising OGC's work on public and private sector operations; coordinating with Assistant General Counsels; preparing contributions to ADB policies and strategy development; managing recruitment and performance reviews of OGC staff; leading improvements in operations and business processes; overseeing the budget and administration of OGC; and mentoring teams and individuals to foster their professional development. This role requires a proactive approach to legal challenges and the ability to lead special projects that enhance the efficiency of the office.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Deputy General Counsel position must possess a Juris Doctorate degree or a Master's Degree in Law, along with admission as a lawyer in one or more of ADB's member countries. Alternatively, a university degree in Law combined with at least 10 years of specialized professional experience in similar organizations may be considered in lieu of a Master's degree. A minimum of 20 years of relevant professional work experience is required, demonstrating a strategic vision, innovative thinking, and sound judgment. Candidates should have a deep understanding of ADB's operational policies or similar multilateral development organizations, as well as exposure to ADB's legal and administrative framework. Integrity, sensitivity, and people-centered leadership are essential for inspiring trust and managing a diverse team.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Juris Doctorate degree or a Master's Degree in Law. Candidates with a university degree in Law and significant professional experience may also be considered.
