Job Overview: The Senior Protection Associate is a vital member of the Protection Unit at UNHCR, reporting directly to the Head of National Office. Additionally, the Senior Protection Associate will contribute to the integration of climate action into protection programming and support the development of policies that enhance the socio-economic inclusion of refugees and stateless persons.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Protection Associate will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including staying informed about political, social, economic, and cultural developments that impact the protection environment. They will apply international and national laws, provide guidance on protection issues, and assist in eligibility and status determination for persons of concern (PoC). The role includes managing individual protection cases, monitoring protection incidents, and identifying durable solutions for PoC. The Senior Protection Associate will also contribute to the design and implementation of protection-related programming, facilitate effective information management, and assist in capacity-building initiatives for authorities and NGOs. They will provide technical advice on local integration pathways and engage in advocacy efforts to strengthen national protection legislation and procedures. The incumbent will also be involved in training and developing guidance materials to enhance the capacity of partners and promote community participation in decision-making processes.
