Job Overview:
The consultant will play a crucial role in supporting injury prevention priorities in the Western Pacific Region, specifically focusing on road safety and drowning prevention. This position involves collaborating with the WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific and Member States to strengthen evidence, policies, and program implementation aimed at reducing injuries and their associated risk factors. The consultant will contribute to regional analysis, technical outputs, and country-level activities to advance evidence-based interventions for injury prevention. The role is vital in enhancing regional collaboration, improving the use of injury-related data, and assisting Member States in implementing effective policies and interventions to reduce injury-related mortality and morbidity. The consultant will be expected to engage in various activities, including supporting the implementation of WHO regional initiatives, providing technical input to Member States, and contributing to the development of communication materials related to injury prevention.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for several key deliverables under the supervision of the Coordinator of the Health Promotion and Policy (HPP) unit. These include supporting the implementation of WHO regional initiatives related to injury prevention, focusing on road safety and drowning prevention. The consultant will provide technical input to assist Member States in strengthening policies, strategies, and programs aimed at reducing road traffic injuries and drowning. Additionally, the consultant will support regional consultations, technical meetings, and coordination with partners. Specific duties include: 1) Supporting evidence generation and knowledge products on injuries, including strengthening national injury surveillance and reporting systems in Member States and updating regional data dashboards on injury. 2) Contributing to technical reports and policy briefs on region-wide and country-level progress and gaps in injury prevention initiatives. 3) Supporting country actions in preventing injuries and promoting multisectoral collaboration in implementing injury prevention interventions, including organizing technical meetings, workshops, or webinars to advance key interventions. 4) Assisting in the development and dissemination of communication materials related to injury prevention, such as factsheets, web content, infographics, and social media content to support advocacy efforts.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a university degree in public health, epidemiology, or a related field. Essential qualifications include at least five years of relevant professional experience in injury prevention, public health, or related fields. Candidates should have experience in data analysis, policy development, and program implementation. The ability to work effectively with government officials across various sectors, as well as with civil society organizations, academic institutions, and international organizations, is crucial. Proven skills in building partnerships and working in multicultural and multidisciplinary environments are also essential. Desirable qualifications include experience working in the Western Pacific Region or other international settings and familiarity with the work of international organizations such as UN agencies and development partners.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess at least a university degree in public health, epidemiology, or a related field. This educational background is essential to ensure that the consultant has the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively contribute to injury prevention initiatives and public health strategies.

Experience:
The consultant is expected to have a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in injury prevention, public health, or related fields. This experience should include work in data analysis, policy development, and the implementation of programs aimed at reducing injuries. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders, including government officials, civil society organizations, and international partners, and should have a proven track record of working in multicultural and multidisciplinary environments.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with the ability to read, write, and speak at an expert level. This proficiency is essential for effective communication and collaboration with stakeholders and for the development of technical reports and communication materials. Additional Notes:
This consultancy is an onsite position based at the WHO-WPRO office in Manila, Philippines, for the duration of the contract, which is expected to last for 11 months. The remuneration for this consultancy is set at USD 6,000 per month, with additional living expenses of USD 2,100 per month. Duty travel may be required depending on project needs.
