Job Overview:
The JVI is seeking a Macro-Fiscal Economist to join its teaching faculty, which currently consists of seven economists with diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise. The successful candidate will contribute to the curriculum focused on macroeconomic and fiscal analysis and policy-related training. This position requires strong analytical skills and hands-on expertise in applied fiscal economics. The role involves delivering and coordinating training sessions, often in collaboration with the IMF and other partners, and requires the ability to engage with a multicultural audience. The candidate will also be responsible for evaluating and updating existing courses, designing new offerings, and participating in outreach events and internal working groups. Additionally, the role includes undertaking applied research aligned with the JVI's mission and contributing to technical assistance initiatives when relevant.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have a range of responsibilities including:
  • Teaching: Delivering and coordinating training in macroeconomic and fiscal policy, often in collaboration with the IMF, Austrian authorities, or other partners. Teaching is the primary responsibility of JVI economists.
  • Curriculum Development: Evaluating and updating existing courses, as well as designing new JVI-sponsored offerings in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Institutional Engagement: Organizing public seminars, participating in outreach events, and contributing to internal working groups.
  • Research: Undertaking applied research that aligns with the JVI’s mission.
  • Technical Assistance: Contributing to IMF or partner-led technical assistance initiatives as time permits.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess 3-5 years of hands-on experience in analyzing macroeconomic and fiscal policy issues and/or formulating fiscal policy. International work experience and familiarity with the countries in the JVI region are advantageous. A proven record of teaching experience, particularly in macroeconomic and fiscal policy topics, is essential. Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills are required, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment. Outstanding oral and written communication skills in English are mandatory.

Educational Background:
A Ph.D. in economics or near completion is preferred for this position. Candidates with relevant academic qualifications will be given priority, particularly those with a focus on macroeconomic and fiscal policy.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have 3-5 years of relevant experience in analyzing macroeconomic and fiscal policy issues. Experience in formulating fiscal policy and international work experience, especially within the JVI region, will be considered an advantage. Proven teaching experience in related topics is also necessary.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with outstanding oral and written communication skills required. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not specified as mandatory.

Additional Notes:
This is a full-time, fixed-term position for an initial duration of two years, with the possibility of renewal for up to eight years in total.
