Job Overview:
The Shelter/WASH Assistant plays a crucial role in implementing NRC's Shelter/WASH strategy at the field level. This position is responsible for supporting camps improvement planning, disaster risk reduction initiatives, and emergency preparedness in coordination with communities and authorities. The role requires strong collaboration with internal teams, such as Protection, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL), and Education, as well as external actors, including local authorities and cluster partners. The Shelter/WASH Assistant will lead NRC's Shelter/WASH interventions in targeted areas, manage information and databases for IDP sites, conduct assessments, support beneficiary selection, and ensure that reliable, high-quality data is collected and available for planning and operational decision-making. The position operates within an established Shelter/WASH program and is essential for ensuring that the needs of displaced populations are met effectively and efficiently.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Shelter/WASH Assistant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: coordinating and delivering activities outlined in project documents according to NRC standards; managing beneficiary databases and ensuring accurate data entry; overseeing program data management and preparing source data for computer entry; regularly updating project-related data and verifying data integrity; organizing documentation for easy retrieval; securing sensitive information and ensuring compliance with data regulations; editing and cleaning data to maintain accuracy; preparing periodic statistics and developing visual data representations; collaborating with project teams and stakeholders for comprehensive data collection; conducting assessments to identify needs and resources; selecting vulnerable families for assistance; delivering Shelter/WASH packages on time; monitoring activities to ensure quality and adherence to specifications; conducting meetings with community leaders and stakeholders; participating in field missions and monitoring activities; and ensuring accurate reporting of program data. The role also involves promoting ideas for improvement and participating in NRC staff seminars and training.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Shelter/WASH Assistant position must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field, with an Education Degree considered an asset. They should have at least 2 years of working experience with communities and international non-governmental organizations (INGOs). Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are essential, along with strong computer skills. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to understand the policy, strategic, and institutional environment rapidly. Experience in a humanitarian or recovery context is highly valued, as is knowledge of the context in Yemen and familiarity with the Microsoft Suite.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field. While a degree in education is considered an asset, candidates with degrees in fields related to humanitarian work, social sciences, or community development may also be suitable. The educational qualifications should reflect a strong foundation in the principles and practices relevant to the Shelter/WASH sector.

Experience:
The position requires at least 2 years of relevant working experience, particularly in a humanitarian or recovery context. Candidates should have experience working with communities and INGOs, demonstrating their ability to navigate complex and volatile environments. Previous experience in data management, project planning, and implementation of Shelter/WASH activities will be advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and oral, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of the local language is also essential, as it facilitates effective communication with community members and stakeholders. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered a plus but is not required.
