Job Overview:
The Shelter/WASH Assistant plays a crucial role in implementing NRC's Shelter, CCCM, and WASH strategy at the field level. This position is essential for supporting the improvement of camps, disaster risk reduction initiatives, and emergency preparedness in collaboration with communities and local authorities. The assistant will work within an established program framework, requiring strong collaboration with internal teams such as Protection, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL), and Education, as well as external actors, including local authorities and cluster partners. The role emphasizes accountability to affected populations by facilitating community mobilization, conducting needs assessments, and promoting hygiene and site management messaging. The assistant will conduct regular site visits to identify gaps, assist in beneficiary identification, maintain accurate records, and collect community feedback, serving as a frontline focal point for complaints and feedback. This position is vital for strengthening service delivery and supporting inclusive programming across all activities, with additional tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Shelter/WASH Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: adhering to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines; assisting with the implementation of the CC portfolio according to the plan of action; organizing and delivering tasks in line with priorities and standards; developing and maintaining knowledge of the specialist area of work; using initiative in day-to-day problem solving; preparing and developing status reports as required; ensuring proper filing of documents; promoting and sharing ideas for strengthening accountability and improving program quality; supporting assessments, beneficiary selection, planning, implementation, and monitoring across Shelter/WASH/CCCM; collecting, analyzing, and reporting project data; assisting in the development of holistic and needs-based programs; supporting community mobilization and behavior change activities; conducting regular site visits; maintaining accurate field documentation; collecting and submitting weekly field evidence; updating field records and beneficiary databases; collecting informal community feedback; supporting the delivery of hygiene promotion and site management messaging; participating in field missions; and acting as a frontline focal point for accountability.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires several qualifications, including experience working as an Assistant in a humanitarian or recovery context, knowledge and experience within a relevant administration, craft, or technical field, and ideally a relevant vocational qualification. Previous experience in complex and volatile contexts is essential, along with documented results related to the position's responsibilities. The candidate should possess context-related skills, knowledge, and experience, particularly knowledge of the context in Yemen, proficiency in English and the local language, and experience with the Microsoft Suite.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field is required for this position. An Education Degree is considered an asset. The educational background should align with the responsibilities of the role, ensuring that the candidate has the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to perform effectively in the humanitarian context.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2 years of working experience with communities and International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGOs). This experience should demonstrate the ability to engage effectively with displaced populations and contribute to the implementation of humanitarian programs.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and oral, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of the local language is also essential, as it facilitates communication with the affected populations and enhances the effectiveness of program delivery.
