Job Overview:

This role involves proposing and implementing mission strategies that align with the geopolitical and humanitarian context. The Country Director ensures that projects progress in accordance with the organization's charter and complies with internal and contractual procedures. Additionally, the position requires mobilizing the necessary material and financial resources for effective program execution, supervising the administration of these resources, coordinating teams, and ensuring their security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security. The Country Director acts as the direct liaison with SI's headquarters, navigating a complex humanitarian environment marked by high volatility and ethical dilemmas, particularly in the context of post-election settings and funding challenges.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Country Director's responsibilities include overseeing the operational model for the Rakhine response, finalizing positioning on key grants, and adapting to developments following the General Elections. The role also involves managing security concerns in urban areas and operational zones, which may be unstable due to ongoing conflicts. The Country Director must ensure effective remote management and apply a strong digital security framework. The position requires excellent management skills, internal communication, coordination, external representation, and donor engagement. The Country Director must also develop strategies, monitor humanitarian access, and advocate for humanitarian principles in a challenging environment.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess excellent management skills, strong internal communication and coordination abilities, and experience in external representation and donor engagement. They should have a proven track record in strategy development, revision, and action planning. Specific experience in managing complex and large consortia, supporting humanitarian access development, and conducting humanitarian analysis is essential. The role demands a high level of adaptability and the ability to navigate ethical dilemmas in a volatile context.

Educational Background:
A university-level degree is required, preferably a Master's degree in Political Science, International Relations, or Humanitarian Aid. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of humanitarian work and the geopolitical landscape in which SI operates.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with 3-4 years in a similar position. This experience is vital for effectively managing the challenges associated with humanitarian operations and leading teams in a complex environment.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in French is considered an asset due to the involvement of French donors. Knowledge of Burmese is desirable, as it facilitates communication and engagement with local stakeholders.

  • The salary is based on experience, starting from EUR 3,740 gross per month, which includes a base salary and an annual leave allowance. Additionally, a monthly per diem of USD 600 is provided, along with coverage for accommodation and travel expenses. The organization implements a break system, allowing for time off every three months, with an additional rest day granted for each month worked. Expatriates receive a comprehensive insurance package covering healthcare expenses, including medical, surgical, dental, and repatriation costs. Living conditions in Yangon are described as good, with access to necessary services and social activities, although administrative management regarding visas and residency may pose challenges.
