Job Overview: The Assistant Programme Coordinator will play a vital role in supporting the UNEP Regional Office for West Asia in implementing various environmental initiatives. This position involves assisting in the coordination of projects, particularly the 'Promotion of Integrated Biodiversity Conservation and Land Degradation Neutrality in Highly Degraded Landscapes of Iraq' project. The role requires collaboration with national authorities and partners, tracking progress across activities, and supporting reporting and knowledge management. The Assistant Programme Coordinator will contribute to the overall facilitation and coordination of projects under the Environmental Governance subprogramme, ensuring that initiatives align with strategic objectives and deadlines. This position is essential for ensuring coherent and effective implementation of the subprogramme's objectives while supporting UNEP's mandate in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Assistant Programme Coordinator will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: contributing to the facilitation and coordination of projects under the Environmental Governance subprogramme; assisting in planning, monitoring, and tracking the progress of ongoing and upcoming initiatives; supporting the monitoring and evaluation of projects by drafting progress reports, including those for Global Environment Facility (GEF) funded projects; preparing, reviewing, and formatting project documentation such as concept notes, background materials, briefs, and reports; organizing and documenting workshops, meetings, consultations, and webinars; drafting Terms of Reference (ToRs); compiling and summarizing information from project reports and regional assessments; gathering lessons learned and good practices from ongoing or completed initiatives; facilitating communication and coordination with national authorities and regional partners; maintaining organized project files and shared drives; and performing any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Assistant Programme Coordinator position should possess strong organizational and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Creativity, professionalism, and the ability to plan and organize effectively are essential. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in English. Additional Notes: This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, and the selected candidate will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The position is based in UN house, Beirut, Lebanon.
