Job Overview: The Project Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the Counter Trafficking Unit within IOM Brazil. This position involves direct supervision by the Project Coordinator based in Brasília, and the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in various activities related to project development, reporting, monitoring, evaluation, and knowledge management. The role requires a proactive approach to support the operational and administrative aspects of ongoing projects, ensuring effective tracking of activities and results achieved. The Project Assistant will also participate in meetings and conferences, maintaining effective liaison and coordination with local authorities, partners, UN agencies, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, donors, and other stakeholders relevant to the project. This position is integral to the successful implementation of IOM's initiatives aimed at addressing trafficking and migration issues in Brazil.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Project Assistant include, but are not limited to: supporting the operational and administrative aspects of ongoing projects; monitoring project implementation and tracking activities and results; participating in meetings and conferences; maintaining effective liaison and coordination with local authorities and partners; assisting in the implementation and monitoring of project activities; providing support for text editing, proofreading, and translation to ensure quality of IOM products; preparing progress and other reports; undertaking site visits and duty travel as required; supporting capacity building activities for local stakeholders; planning, organizing, and managing logistics for various events and activities; collecting data and preparing reports; executing administrative tasks as required; and performing other work-related tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a high school diploma with a minimum of six years of relevant professional experience, or a university degree in law, social sciences, political sciences, public policy, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with a minimum of three years of experience. Candidates must demonstrate experience in implementing and monitoring projects in partnership with government, civil society, UN, or private sector actors, as well as technical writing, editing, and reporting skills. A thorough knowledge of IOM's mandate and activities in the current migration context in Brazil is essential, along with the ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with relevant stakeholders.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess either a high school diploma with extensive relevant experience or a university degree in a related field from an accredited institution. Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that the educational background aligns with the requirements of the position.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have experience implementing and monitoring projects in collaboration with government, civil society, UN, or private sector actors. Experience in technical writing, editing, and reporting is crucial, along with working experience in a migration context. A thorough understanding of migration law, refugee law, and trafficking in persons law is also necessary, as well as the ability to establish and maintain strong working relations with various stakeholders.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese and English is required for this position, both oral and written. Proficiency in these languages will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments. Advanced Spanish is considered desirable but not mandatory.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to local recruitment, meaning only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Brazil will be eligible for consideration.
